Happy, kind and brave.

Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.

Year Two - compass directions

This week, we have been listening to a range of African tales. The children loved discovering animals with missing features and using their imaginations to think about how those features might have appeared.

We talked about animals such as giraffes, zebras and elephants, and came up with our own creative ideas. This has inspired us to start planning our very own “How the…?” tales. Some children are already excited to write stories like:

  • How the Giraffe Got His Long Neck
  • How the Zebra Got His Stripes
  • How the Elephant Got His Trunk

In geography, we have continued our learning about the country of Kenya. A highlight of the week was hearing all about the teacher’s recent trip to our link school, Munga Primary School.

The children were especially excited to learn about the child our year group is sponsoring. We will be finding out even more about her school and daily life next week, which everyone is really looking forward to.

In Nature Time, we have been practising using geographical vocabulary to give clear directions. The children enjoyed using words such as:

  • North, South, East, West
  • Forwards, backwards, left, right

We also used a compass. The children loved exploring how it worked and using it to help guide their directions.
