Year Two - Fun With Puddles and Paper

This week in Year Two has been very creative and lots of fun!

We began the week by exploring paper art. The children explored a variety of paper types, feeling the different textures and noticing how each one behaves when cut or torn. They experimented with tearing and cutting shapes—skills that will be incredibly useful when we begin our collage later this term. It was lovely to see the children so engaged, chatting excitedly about how each paper felt and what they could create with it.

In Maths, we focused on developing our understanding of multiplication and division. The children enjoyed working practically, especially when grouping different objects to match multiplication number sentences. This helped them see how multiplication is like creating equal groups.

Our Nature Time session this week was a real highlight! After all the recent rain, the children had great fun exploring the puddles—seeing how deep they were and testing what floats or sinks. They then worked together to build small boats using only natural materials such as sticks, leaves, bark and grass. We loved watching their problem‑solving skills in action as they tested, adapted, and improved their floating creations.

We also went on a material scavenger hunt, searching for natural items that were soft, hard, rough, and smooth. This activity encouraged the children to look carefully at the world around them and describe what they found using scientific vocabulary.
