Year 2 - Clay Clocks

This week in Year 2, we have been very busy exploring position and direction in our Maths lessons. We have been learning to use directional vocabulary such as left, right, clockwise and anticlockwise. The children worked hard to understand how to describe movement and turns. The children loved exploring direction in the nature reserve, giving and following instructions using their new vocabulary. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm as they guided each other around and practised their understanding in a fun and active way. Back in the classroom, we also investigated shape patterns by turning shapes. The children enjoyed experimenting with rotations and discovering how shapes can be turned to create repeating patterns. We saw some excellent creativity and careful thinking during this activity.

In Art, we began preparing for next week by making our clay clocks. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the clay, shaping it carefully and using clay tools to add detail. They showed great creativity and focus, and we are looking forward to painting them once they have fully dried.

The best news this week was our fantastic reading achievement—both 2AH and 2MH earned the class reading worms! This is a brilliant accomplishment. A huge well done to everyone for reading five times this week. It was lovely to see how excited and proud the children were of their success.

What a wonderful week, Year 2—keep up the great work!
