Year 1 Art - L.S. Lowry

This half term we have been looking at the artist L.S. Lowry. We started by looking closely at his paintings, including the way the buildings and people were drawn. The people were facing in different ways, some even facing backwards! The children had a go at drawing their own figures on a whiteboard first, and then in their sketchbooks. Some children tried to include prams and dogs within their drawings, just as Lowry did. Next, we focused on re creating the buildings. The children drew different sized buildings, with chimneys and windows.

We created a final piece of art work in the style of Lowry, first by painting the background in a blue and grey wash. Next we created our buildings on black paper, stuck them on the background and then finally added our ‘matchstick figures’ in the foreground. The children did an amazing job with their Art work. They really looked carefully and worked creatively to produce a fabulous end piece. Well done Year 1!
