  • Year 5 - Sikhism

    Fri 28 Apr 2023

In our R.E. lesson this week, the children discussed how Sikhs show commitment to their faith.

One of the ways Sikhs do this is through the Five Ks: kesh (uncut hair); kangha (a comb); kara (a steel bracelet); kachera (undershorts); and kirpan (a sword). These are artefacts that are very important to Sikhs; they help Sikhs to live their lives in the right way.

  • Year 2 - New challenges –Be an Explorasaurus!

    Fri 28 Apr 2023 FProbert

Another busy week in Year 2. We have had new things happening in class this week.

In PE, we got all of the equipment out and challenged ourselves to climbing up the ropes and the rope ladders, walking backwards on the benches, holding balances and showing different rolls on the mats. We tried to make our sequences impressive!

In Science, we looked at the science results of our cress experiments. Our individual cress seed results were varied. 2MH’s cress grew wonderfully, but 2P cress results were not so fabulous. Being scientists, we could explore the reason why some cress seeds grew well while others were not so successful.

Friday afternoon was great fun. Being an explorasaurus this time meant trying out different ways to attached wheels and axles to a chassis. This is to help us when we make our on moving vehicle.

We welcomed Mrs Eaton to the year 2 teaching team this week too. We feel very lucky!

  • Year 2 - A great first week of the final term!

    Thu 20 Apr 2023 FProbert

What a great week the Year 2 children have had. It is always so exciting to start a new term and to start new topics. This term has certainly started brilliantly!

The children were able to make the most of the sunshine when they had their first visit to the nature reserve on Tuesday. Looking for signs of spring, the children explored the reserve with a keen eye. Their visit was extra special as our new Science topics is plants. The children planted their own sunflower seeds in the hope that they will germinate and grow strong and tall. They have also started an investigation into what conditions are best for plants to grow. We shall be checking on the results next week. The sunshine added to the enjoyment of learning and developing their sending and retrieving skills in outdoor games. We are keeping our fingers crossed for sunshine at the swimming pool too!

Our reading book this half term is The Day the Crayons Quit. We have also started our new reading practice activities: V.I.P.E.R.S reading. This is where the children share a text and answer questions about Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval and Summarising. These reading skills will help the children with their overall comprehension of a text.

Vocabulary has been a key component of all our subjects this week. Why not question a year 2 child about the following words: e-book, mind-map, node, fraction, quarter, third, humiliate, desperate, deflated, emotions, families and finally, chronology. You will be so impressed with their knowledge!
