• Year 1 Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole

  Year 1 Florence Nightingale 

  We have been busy learning about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and what they achieved in their lives. We have talked about why they are famous and how they changed nursing. 
  We have practised using bandages with fake blood and made a lamp similar to the one Florence used when she looked after the soldiers in the Crimean war.

  Today, we talked about a history timeline and tried to stick on events in simple chronological order. 
  We are looking forward to our new topic next half term.

• Year 5 Gymnastics

  This half term, Year 5 have been practising flight, shape and balance in gymnastics sessions.

   

  After lots of floorwork, working with partners and groups, the children then developed their skills on the apparatus. As you can see from the pictures, they are on course for OIympic gold medals! 

   

  The children had a fantastic time and were enthusiastic and creative in all the sessions.

• Year 3 discover amazing rainforest creatures!

  Have you heard about the new weird, crazy and unique creatures just discovered in the Amazon by Year 3 scientists?

   

  We have been finding out about Brazil and the Amazon rainforest in geography. In English, we looked at the features of a non-chronological report and created our own about our imaginary creatures. 

   

  Well done to the children for their fantastic imagination and writing.

  

• Year 2 - moving vehicles

  Thanks to our massive selection of boxes and resources from parents we have made our very own vehicles. They move and everything! They designed, made and evaluated them as part of our DT topic. Great job Year 2!

  

• Year One - Children’s Mental Health Week

  In Year One we have been finding different ways to calm and relax.  We have explored Yoga, breathing techniques and mindful colouring. We have talked about our feelings and we understand that at times our feelings can change.  Afterwards, we discussed what happens if we have a ‘blue’ (sad)  day and what we can do to make this easier.

  All children drew their own support balloons to show who helps them when things get hard or challenging.

  

• Reception - maps & mindfulness

  This week the children in Reception have been looking at maps of the school. We have discussed features that we can see around the school and have even looked on google maps to see some of our houses! For Children’s Mental Health Week, we have taken part in some yoga and discussed what makes us happy! 

  

• Year 4 - Mindfulness all around!

  This week was Children’s Mental Health week and Safer Internet Day. As part of our Mental Health week, we watched a story called Lucy’s Blue Day, which discussed emotions in terms of colour. We listened to relaxing music, took time to rest our minds and used colouring as a form of switching off.  Simply being in the moment is important.

  Safer internet Day gave us the opportunity to appreciate how we act online is important. Respect, kindness and appreciation of those on line is essential to keeping us safe online.

   

  Today was the last day of our hockey sessions with Emily and her assistant coaches. We all wanted to say a great big ‘Thank you’!

  

• A busy week for Year 3!

  Year 3 have had a busy (but fun) week!
   

  The children looked fabulous in their costumes filming green-screen scenes and singing for our movie production of Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes "The 3little pigs".
   

  They did some STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) challenges to build houses from sticks, straws and Lego and test to see if they could be blown down. They had fun building dens in the nature reserve. 
   

  We have also thought carefully about staying safe on Internet Safety Day, and about looking after ourselves through Mental Health Week.
   

  Well done to all the children for their hard work.
