This week saw us coming to the end of our class book The Firework Maker's Daughter. I has been a great book and we all wrote stories based around the book. Take a look at some of our wonderful writing.

  • Year 1 - What do animals eat?

Thu 30 Mar 2023 Mrs Ireland

On Wednesday, we learnt that some animals are herbivore - that means they only eat plants and vegetables and some eat only meat. These are called carnivores. There is another group of animals who eat both plants and meat. They learnt that they were called omnivores. The children did some sorting activities in groups and discussed what the animals eat. They noticed carnivores tended to have sharp teeth to eat their prey. They were surprised to find out that an elephant was a herbivore and some monkeys were an omnivore.

We had some good discussions and the children found it interesting.

  • Year 5 - Mosaics

    Thu 30 Mar 2023

Inspired by the beautiful and diverse work of Spanish architect Antoni Gaudí, Year 5 pupils have designed and created their own mosaics.

Following Gaudí’s example of taking ideas from nature, the children came up with a range of designs based on animals, plants and other natural forms.

As well as learning about one of the most original designers of the last 150 years, the aspiring artists all produced wonderful, eye-catching work of their own.

  • Year 3 Roman trip and cooking!

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

Year 3 have been very busy recently! We enjoyed a super trip to Dorset Museum in Dorchester to find out about the Roman history of our area. We enjoyed handling artifacts, dressing up, excavating a skeleton and visiting the Roman townhouse.

For Design Technology, we have been looking at where our food comes from, food hygiene, and weighing, measuring and cutting safely to create our own delicious tomato soup. Yummy 😋

  • Year 3 & 4 Art Club

    Wed 29 Mar 2023

The Year 3 & 4 art club have been looking at the work of Brazilian artist Romero Britto, who has a wonderfully colourful, happy and playful style.

We looked at the features of his work and tried to design our own in a similar style. Well done to all the children for their hard work and creativity 👍

  • Year 2 -Food! Glorious food!

    Fri 24 Mar 2023 FProbert

Year 2 have spent so many lessons this week talking about food.

In Science, they have been looking at the different food groups and sorted a range of foods into the correct groups: fruit and vegetables, carbohydrates, protein, dairy and fats and oils (inc. other sweet foods).

In PSHE, they also looked at healthy eating, and they discussed what a healthy snack should look like. They even created their own healthy snack.

However, it was Friday's DT lesson that made all that learning worthwhile. After weeks of looking at smoothies, tasting a variety of smoothies, designing their own smoothies, it was finally time to make their own smoothies.Twenty ingredients were at hand, and the designing chefs worked like true professionals.

Their instruction skills came to the fore as they used those bossy verbs to create their individual smoothies: chopping, peeling, slicing, blending and the best part: tasting.

What a delicious way to end the week!

  • Year 4 - Speech marks, singing and Maria Rivans

    Fri 24 Mar 2023

Another great week in Year 4.

In Art this half term we have been learning about a great artist - Maria Rivans! We have been looking at collage and have created our own artwork inspired by the work of Maria Rivans. We think the finished products look great.

We have really enjoyed reading The Firework Maker's Daughter and are very near the end. This week in our Writing lessons we have been using part of the story to work on our use of speech marks.

And finally....we have been busy rehearsing! We can't wait to welcome you all in next week to watch our annual production. We know you are going to be blown away by their singing, dancing and acting!
