  • Maths Parent Information Evening

    Mon 29 Jan 2024

Parents and children were invited in to explore our maths methods during an information evening recently.

They found out about the manipulatives (equipment) and written methods we use from Reception to Year 6 in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and journaling.

Well done to all the adults and children who joined in the games, activities and examples so enthusiastically - we hope it was useful to find out more about how we teach maths so parents are better able to support children at home.

  • Year 4 Fabulous & Marvellous!

    Fri 26 Jan 2024

Friday's are always 'Fabulous!' in year 4, for we have our outdoor PE sessions and French with Mrs Smith. We have been learning the names of our family members, for example, my mother is ma mère!

We have also been rather 'Marvellous' during our Mindfulness lessons. On Wednesday, the MHST (Mental Health Schools Team) came to visit. This week, we talked about what makes a friendship work and concocted a Friendship Soup!

We shall certainly try to follow their advice:

'The only way to have a friend is to be a friend.'

'Treat others the way you want them to treat you.'

Funnily enough, those two adjectives - marvellous and fabulous have the same ending as our spelling rule this week! We have been looking at adding the -ous suffix to our root words.

    What a joyous week!

  • Year Two - Art and Visitor

Fri 26 Jan 2024 Mrs Mutch

We have had a busy week this week, which finished with an exciting afternoon. We enjoyed making our collage in the style of Henri Matisse. We looked at examples of his work and then had a go at cutting and tearing paper to create our own masterpieces.

After that we had a visitor during our RE lesson, who came and talked about the Seder plate and what this means to Jewish people. We were able to talk about what we had already learnt and asked some interesting questions.

  • Cave baby inspired Art work

    Thu 25 Jan 2024 Mullins

This week we have been enjoying the book Cave Baby by Julia Donaldson. We have been inspired by the art work in the story. So, we decided to paint with mud in the Nature Reserve with sticks and brushes. We even used our hands so we got very muddy- and loved it!

Art in Nature is great fun.

  • Year 5 - Gymnastics

    Thu 25 Jan 2024

Year 5 have had a wonderful time this half term in the hall performing some gymnastics! Well done, Year 5, for such hard work with balances, flight and shape!

  • Year One - How good is your sense of smell?

Thu 25 Jan 2024 Mrs Ireland

In science, we have been learning all about the body and this week have learnt about the senses. The children had to use their noses to identify different smells. Some they liked and some they weren't keen on! They looked really closely at their own eye and drew a picture of it.

Next week we will move on to the sense of taste!!

Who will be brave enough to taste everything?

  • Year 4 Fantastic learning

    Fri 19 Jan 2024

On Monday, the Year 4 children took to their fortnightly visit to the Nature Reserve. The activity this week was to develop their art skills with using the medium of charcoal. The children produced some amazing sketches.

This week our spelling rule is using the suffix - sure. We discovered that when you read sure as a suffix, it is not the same sound as when you read it as a single word.  We had lots of fun speed writing our spelling words and using dictionaries to discover the actual meanings of the words.

In English, the children have been writing persuasive letters to Mrs McCann on the subject of abolishing school uniform. What are your thoughts on this subject?

  • Year 3- Friday 19th January

    Thu 18 Jan 2024

This week, in our English sessions, year 3 planned and wrote non-chronological reports about a new species of animal we imagined might be living in the Amazon rainforest. First we drew and labelled our mystery animal, and then we planned the different subheadings for our report. Finally, we spent the last two lessons turning our notes into full sentences.

In addition, this week we had our second Lacrosse lesson with our sports coach Emily. We are continuing to use a lacrosse stick to effectively scoop and throw the ball. We had great fun!

  • Year 5 and 6 Cross Country

    Tue 16 Jan 2024

A selection of boys and girls from Years 5 and 6 took part in a 1.5km cross country race at Budmouth.

The girls team came 2nd out of the 7 local primary schools with Fleur winning the race.

The boys team came 3rd out of the 7 local primary schools with Austin coming 4th.

    Well done to all involved.

  • Year 2 - Materials

Fri 12 Jan 2024 Mrs Mutch

This week we have continued to explore materials and looked at their properties. We have been down to the nature reserve an followed an un-nature trail where we found objects that don't belong there. We described the materials these are made from.

In art we have started to look at the artist Henri Matisse. We have tried to copy one of his pieces of artwork then described what we can see in the piece of work.
