Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
After a good night's sleep we were up and eager to get going on our second day at Leeson House.
Day 2 was almost as sunny as day 1 until later on in the day the heavens opened up. Luckily, we had most of our outdoor activities done by the time the rain poured down.
We found some great wildlife pond dipping. Some of us were a bit unsure of the creatures we found, but we all gave it a good go.
We also did some map work. We were shown how to orientate the map, and we used compasses to locate north, south, east and west. We do love a bit of Geography!
The team games we played were great fun. Some of us were better then others, but we all had a laugh giving them a good go.
And...the exciting bit...we got to visit the Leeson shop! I'm sure all the parents will enjoy seeing the things we chose to buy when we get home.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner has all been great, and we are certainly being well fed.
All very tired but happy (including the teachers).
Over the past 2 weeks we have been looking at shape in Year 3. To explore 3D shapes and their properties we created our own using blue tac and straws. While we made our shapes we had lots of conversation about how many vertices, edges and faces our shapes had. Great work Year 3!
This week we have been working hard on our George and The Dragon stories. The children tried to make their sentences longer using and, but and because and by using adjectives.
In PSHE we have been talking about inside our bodies and played a game to help learn the name and function of different body organs.
In science we had lots of fun making sycamore seeds. We then used these to investigate how we could make them fly further.
Year 6 had to privilege of competing in the highly-anticipated Nash Cup annual event. They worked well as a team to create some amazing pattern of play. Our group was full of tough competition, but the team defended well and advanced to the knockout stages and were beaten by a well-drilled opposition. Radipole finished third on the day for the large schools competition, and each player should be proud for the role they played and how well they played in their respective positions.
This week we were lucky enough to have a specialist visit us in the Nature Reserve to lead a session on the water cycle! We made water filtration systems with mostly natural objects to filter the water, then we boiled it on a fire!
Thanks again to our visitor. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and were amazing at using these survival skills!
On Tuesday, Alex from Adventure For All set up a climbing wall on the top field. In small groups, the each pupil had the opportunity to scale the wall. Many even took the further challenge offered to them.
In addition Ben, from Dorchester Cricket Club, visited for the day. Each UKS2 class had the opportunity to spend an hour with him developing their throwing, catching and bowling. Fun was had by all!
We have investigated various way of making pictures move. The children planned their own moving picture around the theme of 'Bats'.
They had to think about whether they used a slider, lever or wheel mechanism.
They have made some wonderful moving pictures and we hope to get some on display soon!
The children all arrived safely at Leeson House today. The weather has been beautiful and the children enjoyed a lovely sunny walk to Dancing Ledge with plenty of water stops on the way.
The children have also enjoyed orienteering and some outdoor games on the Leeson House site, but the most exciting bit by far has been seeing their rooms for the next few days. Making their beds was...interesting!
All the children have really made themselves at home and are looking forward to a good night's sleep! So are the staff!
To celebrate the end of SATs, Year 6 went to the nature reserve with Miss Milan. Whilst there, we created a camp fire, made pizzas, cooked them and ate them. Using wraps, passata, grated cheese and tin foil our pizza, calzone, wrap creations were formed. They were absolutely delicious...
What an exciting and busy week we have had! We started the week with our first swimming session. The children were amazing and it was lovely to see them all trying hard with their swimming.
On Tuesday we had a practical science session, investigating plants. We explored what was inside a seed, tuber and bulb; then planted seeds, printed with tubers and dissected a bulb.
In PSHE we talked about dental hygiene. We learnt a song about cleaning our teeth and then had a go with a toothbrush. We also learnt how important it is to clean your teeth after sugary drinks and sweets by using an egg shell stained with coke.
On Friday we had a lovely time decorating our vehicles. They all look amazing. The children all worked hard to stick to their designs and were very creative.
