Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
We have been learning how to add two numbers together in lots of different ways. It has been lots of practical work, and discussions before writing a number sentence!
We have had fun investigating why different objects roll and how to move objects by sliding them down a slope or pushing up on a seesaw. We also loved discussing this with our partner.
Year 5 pupils have been investigating the force of friction this week.
The excellent experimenters attached force meters to wooden blocks and pulled them over different surfaces, measuring the force (in Newtons) generated by each one.
The children worked fabulously well together, and they all gained an understanding of the effect friction has on movement.
This week, year 6 have been busy following their plans to create their very own crumble. We have had a vast variety of flavours made: apple, apple and blackberry, apple and blueberry, blueberry, banana, rhubarb, blackberry, plum, peach and peach and blackberry. Some people even altered the traditional topping by adding oats or biscuit crumbs!
This week we had an exciting donation of seeds for all the children in Reception and KS1. One of wonderful parents Maria and her brother designed a mural to dress the well at Upwey wishing well last May and raised £245.09. They used this money to purchase the seeds and Gould garden centre donated a further 2 boxes.
The seeds are to be scattered to encourage bees and wildlife into our community. Some of our children helped make the mural so we are very proud of them.
The children will bring their seeds home this week and we can’t wait to hear how the flowers grow and how many butterflies and bees they can see.
Happy sowing.......
On Tuesday, Year 1 enjoyed a walk around the school. It was a bit muddy, but the sun was shining and everyone seemed to have a lovely time. We went past St.Ann's Church and behind the school nature reserve. We stopped at the park to have a play and the swing was definitely the most popular!
When we got back to school, we drew the route on a map and we have written some great recounts using time connectives.
Year 4 have been scientists this week, and have been testing different types of materials to see which would work best for a music studio.
The children had to wrap up a sound source to see which material made it the quietest and muffled the sound the best. We found out that the resources with the most air pockets (the squishiest) muffled the sound the best.
What super science work!
Two days of non- uniform!
What an unusual week where we have had two non-uniform days. The first day was to support our school PTFA who were asking for chocolate and egg donations for the forthcoming Easter Fayre. The second one was for Comic Relief. We would like to thank you for your monetary donations. We especially liked the jokes the children brought in. Here are just a few that were shared.
Joke 1: There were 10 cats on a boat. One cat jumped off. How many were left?
None! They were copy-cats!
Joke 2: Knock, knock!
Who’s there?
Cows
Cows who?
Cows moo, not who!
Joke 3: What do you call a sheep on a trampoline?
A woolly jumper!
Joke 4: What do you call a magician’s dog?
A labracadabrador
Joke 5: What did the lettuce say to the door?
Lettuce I, it’s freezing out here!
Joke 6: What do you call a dancing lamb?
A baa-allerina!
The children have continued to work well on their Geography and English work this week.
The children learned how to draw a simple map of a town in Kenya using keys to identify different physical and human features. In English, they listened to a traditional African tale. They then tried retelling that tale to each other. Traditional tales were often passed through generations simply by telling the stories and not reading or writing them. Through using their own created storyboards, the children then wrote the story of Why the Sun and Moon live in the Sky. Maybe you could ask them the story -we are sure they will remember the whole tale. Enjoy!
Year 3 have been finding out about why litter is so bad for the environment and ways in which it can damage wildlife and nature. We went on a litter picking hunt around the nature reserve and school grounds to help keep it super tidy and safe. Well done to the children for being such great Careodactyls 🌎 🐿️ 🦊🦌
Incredible performance from some Year 5 students at this week's netball match against St George's! 11-0 to us. Well done, Year 5. We are incredibly impressed and proud!
