Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
What an exciting week it’s been in Year Two!
We were excited to welcome a special visitor—a Year Two child from Sunbury, Australia! She shared stories about her school, and we loved hearing how her school day is both similar and different to ours. It was fascinating to compare and discover how children learn across the world. She joined us for our art lesson, where we learnt about the artwork Surprise! by Henri Rousseau.
In Geography, we’ve been exploring the continents of the world. Using a compass, we practised describing where each continent is located—north, south, east, and west. It was a great way to build our map skills and understand more about our planet.
During Nature Time, we ventured into the woodland to investigate what belongs in a woodland habitat—and what doesn’t. We searched for items that should not be in a woodland, like lego and other man-made objects. It was a fun and thoughtful activity that helped us appreciate the importance of caring for our environment.
We’ve learned so much this week—from geography to local nature—and we’re already looking forward to what next week will bring!
This week, Year 4 have been busy continuing learning of the new topics including character descriptions in English, electrical circuits in Science, and Anglo-Saxons in History. We are really looking forward to our Anglo-Saxon Day on the 29th September. In addition, we visited the Nature Reserve for the first time this year. We reminded each other about how the Nature Reserve works by having discussions and playing games. Furthermore, we have continued with hockey and gymnastics in our PE lessons, progressing our skills.
This week, in our maths lessons, we worked hard on our understanding of place value. We learnt to partition 3 digit numbers in different ways and how to count on and back in ones, tens and hundreds. In our English lessons, we have started to look at the features of an instructional text, and over the next week, we will write our own instructions on ‘How to wash a Woolly Mammoth’. During PE, we continued to develop our hockey skills with some dribbling and passing games. Finally, we enjoyed our first session in the nature reserve with a scavenger hunt, where we had to find various natural and human-made objects. We followed this up with some games and den building!
Year 6 have worked super hard these past few weeks on their first piece of writing on World War Two, which we're learning about in History, this half term. The children wrote their writing up neatly then read it to some children from the other Year 6 class. Some children even asked to stand up and read theirs in front of the class! It's great to see children work hard and be proud of something they've improved over the weeks.
We’ve had a fantastic start to the new school year in Year 2! The children have settled in beautifully and it’s been lovely to see them playing with friends and enjoying their time together.
In Science, we’ve been exploring the fascinating world of animal homes. During our first week, the children took part in “Let’s Explore” activities, naming animal homes and thinking about what animal homes look like. This week, we took our learning outdoors to discover things that are alive, dead, or have never been alive—a brilliant way to spark curiosity and observation skills.
In English, we’ve been diving into stories set in the home. One of our favourites has been The Gorilla by Anthony Browne. The children have written some lovely sentences inspired by the story.
In Art, we’ve been experimenting with colour mixing and exploring tones by adding white to paint. The children created fantastic colour strips and used their paints with care and creativity. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they explore artistic techniques.
We’re so proud of how well the children have started the year and can’t wait to see all the amazing learning and growth ahead!
Year 3 have been amazing this week! What a busy and productive first full week we have had.
In maths, we have been using base 10 and place value equipment to help us explore place value.
In English, we have explored nouns, verbs and complex sentences using FANBOYS conjunction words and written a super fight scene between a Stone Age child and a bear.
In PE, we have been doing gymnastics and creating sequences of contrasting movements including using shoulder stands.
In art, we have looked at the work of the sculptor Barbara Hepworth and sketched her work in preparation for making our own clay sculptures.
In science, we have been testing the properties of rocks and sorting and grouping them.
Phew! Well done to the children for their hard work :-)
This week, we started our hockey sessions outside. We learned how to hold a hockey stick correctly and use a push pass accurately. In Maths, we have been looking at place value through numbers up to 1000. Also, we have started reading our Reading Spine book - Beowulf - and studied this in our Reading sessions. This has helped us in English where we have been looking at using expanded noun phrases.
Welcome Year 6! We've had a great first week back. The children have been working super hard to get back into the swing of things. Here's a picture from our History lesson of chronological events from the past! Well done, Year 6.
A Tasty Start to Year 1!
We’ve had a fantastic start to Year 1, and this week has been especially exciting. We enjoyed reading Mr Wolf’s Pancakes—a fun and slightly cheeky story about poor Mr Wolf, who wanted to make pancakes but didn’t get any help from his rather unfriendly neighbours.
Despite their refusal, Mr Wolf didn’t give up. He managed to gather the ingredients, write the shopping list, and cook the pancakes all by himself. The children were very amused to discover that Mr Wolf eventually got his revenge… but we’ll let them tell you how!
Inspired by the story, we had our own pancake-making fun in class. The children loved tasting their delicious pancakes topped with lemon and sugar—yum! It was a great way to bring the story to life and enjoy a shared treat together.
We’re looking forward to many more exciting stories and activities this term!
What a busy week we have had this week! All of the children have enjoyed taking part in sports day. It was lovely to see them cheering each other on, whilst being watch by parents and family. They were all fantastic at persevering and trying their best.
In English this week the children have been writing their own alternative fairy tale. They have worked hard on planning, writing and presenting their stories. We hope you enjoy sharing them with your child when they bring them home next week.
During nature reserve time the child enjoyed painting a watercolour and making a book mark using natural objects. They worked hard to make careful observations of the world around them.
We hope you all have an enjoyable restful summer.
