  • Year Two - Measuring and Planning Stories

    Fri 28 Mar 2025

This week the children have continued to work on their measuring during maths. They used the scales to weigh and compare mass of different objects. They loved using the scales and were fantastic working in groups. In our nature reserve time the children enjoyed using different measuring equipment to measure the length of sticks. They used a tape measure to find how far it was around the trunk of different trees.

The children have all loved learning about Kenya and this week have learnt about urban Kenya. They looked back on their year one work on London to compare what life is like in London compared to Nairobi. They were really interested and keen to ask lots of questions. They were suprised to find how many schools there were in London compared to Nairobi and enjoyed looking at the football stadiums in both places.

In English, we planned our Just So Story to explain why an animal has a particular feature. Lots of children are writing about why the giraffe has a long neck. They will write their stories next week and I'm sure would love to tell you about their story plan over the weekend.

  • Year 1 Pond Dipping

Wed 26 Mar 2025 Mrs Ayles

On Tuesday afternoon, Year 1 headed up to the school pond to do a spot of pond dipping as part of our science topic on animals. The children were all very keen to use the nets and magnifying glasses. Once we'd set up, we dipped the nets in and were ready to go. Lots of excitement and anticipation all around! We were very lucky and with the first dip of the nets we managed to catch lots of newts hiding amongst the pond weed! The children worked really well with each other and were able to spot a few other creatures pulled out from the pond using the identification charts. What a fantastic afternoon at the pond, especially with the sun shining on us too!

  • Year 6 - cooking

    Tue 25 Mar 2025

This week, Year 6 have been making crumbles as part of their DT topic! The children tested crumbles and then designed and made their own! They had fantastic time stewing and making the recipe. Hopefully they enjoy them! Perhaps with a little bit of custard, or ice-cream. Yummy!

  • Year 3 - Preparing Our Fire Area

    Fri 21 Mar 2025

This week, in our English lessons, year 3 began to look at writing an informative speech. In addition, as part of our maths work, we examined fractions and learned how to sequence them in ascending and descending order. Thursday afternoon was spent in the nature reserve, preparing an area for fire building. We also used the time as an opportunity to set up a forest art gallery, creating tree sketches using charcoal from our own camp fire.

  • Year 4 - Sumdog Battle Royale, collages and fractions!

    Fri 21 Mar 2025

Year 4 had a 1 vs all "Battle Royale" on Sumdog this week! Well done to all the children - it was incredibly tight at the top of the leaderboard with the positions changing right up to the end.

Well done to our winner Ashton, and the other top scorers Bodie, Oscar and Nadeeja.

We also enjoyed making some collages in art in the style of Maria Rivans, expressing hobbies and things that reflected our lives.

In maths, we have been adding and subtracting fractions.

Great effort everybody, keep it up :-)

  • Nature Reserve- Building Towers

    Thu 20 Mar 2025

Year 5 took on a fun challenge this week, which was to build the tallest, strongest tower using natural materials.

Working in teams, they gathered leaves, twigs, and stones, experimenting with different structures. Towers toppled, branches snapped, but they kept persevering.

The children were fantastic collabadons and really showed their creativity and resilience even when something didn’t work.

    Well done Year 5!

  • Year Two - Capacity and Nature Reserve

    Thu 20 Mar 2025

It has been so lovely to see the sunshine this week and we have enjoyed getting outside. In Nature Reserve time we looked at different trees and began to name them. We looked at diferent types of bark, plants that grow on trees and explored trees that are evergreen or deciduous. We then used charcoal from the fire pit to sketch our favourite tree. The children looked carefully at all of the detail and enjoyed using the charcoal.

In Maths we have been measuring the capacity and volume of different containers. We went outside and used the water trays to measure accurately and then compared the capacity. We had great fun in our groups using the water.

  • Year 1 - Walk around the School

Wed 19 Mar 2025 Mrs Ireland

On Tuesday, we had a lovely walk around the school. We spotted signs of Spring and enjoyed the sunshine. When we got back to the classroom we looked at where we had walked on the map and drew on the route.

Definitely the best bit was stopping at Westmacott Play Area!

  • Year 5 - Air Resistance

    Mon 17 Mar 2025

As part of this term's science topic on forces, the children in 5T investigated the relationship between surface area and air resistance.

Working in groups, the children created different-sized parachutes and dropped them from the climbing frame in the playground, observing how fast they travelled to the ground.

They all did a fantastic job, impressing us with their scientific knowledge.

  • Year 3 - Shapes and Colours!

Fri 14 Mar 2025 Mr Taylor

This week, we created our own art pieces inspired by Beatriz Milhazes. The children used bright colours, bold shapes, and layered patterns to reflect her distinctive style, and really enjoyed experimenting with different designs to make their artwork stand out!

On Monday, the whole school had a fantastic visit from Rocksteady. We all loved watching the live music, and some lucky children even had the chance to join in and perform as part of the band—it was such an exciting experience!

In maths, we focused on measuring and calculating the perimeter of different shapes. The children worked carefully with rulers, checking their answers and building their confidence.

Music lessons have been full of energy as we continued learning Three Little Birds on the glockenspiels. The children are becoming more confident each week with both the notes and the rhythm!
