  • Year 3 - Persuasive Writing, Whittling Wrap-Up, and "Revoltin'"!

    Fri 29 Nov 2024

This week, we began exploring persuasive writing in English, tying it in with our DT work on packaging. The children examined advertisements and identified key persuasive techniques such as alliteration, catchy slogans, rhetorical questions, and emotive language. They enjoyed spotting these features and discussing how they convince people to buy products, using this knowledge to start planning their own persuasive writing pieces.

In Maths, we continued with multiplication and division, focusing on the 3 times tables. The children worked on problem-solving tasks and began spotting patterns in their multiplication facts, showing great progress.

In the Nature Reserve, we completed our final groups for whittling, with everyone learning how to feather wood. Now that this activity is complete, we’re preparing to start something exciting in the coming months – though it’s a surprise for now!

In PE, the children continued developing their Tag Rugby skills, practising passing and teamwork in mini-games. For Dance, we’ve been working on routines inspired by Matilda the Musical. This week, the children performed to "Revolting Children" with energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of character!

While some found the pop pass challenging, they persevered and cheered each other on. It was lovely to see the support among teammates.

    Well done Year 5!

  • Nature Reserve Ranger Trip to the RSPB

    Tue 26 Nov 2024

On Friday, the Radipole Nature Reserve Rangers, visited the Radipole Lake Nature Reserve to explore the plants and animals at their reserve. We walked all the way from school there, and was shown around by the lovely, knowledgeable volunteers there. We saw robins, mallard ducks and different sea gulls. We also learned about the time and care that went into preserving and maintaining the reserve through the different seasons, and we learnt how we could better take care of our amazing school nature reserve that we are so lucky to have.

  • Year 5 - Perspective Drawings

    Fri 22 Nov 2024

In art this half term, the children in Year 5 are learning about perspective.

Over the last fortnight, they have learnt how to use a vanishing point to create accurate one-point perspective drawings of the world.

Building on this, children will be learning how to create two-point perspective drawings later in the term.

The children have created some fabulous work!

  • Year 1 - Design and Technology skills

Thu 21 Nov 2024 Mrs Ireland

In Design and Technology we have a challenge to make a chair for Baby Bear ( a soft teddy).  This week, we have focused on teaching the children  the skills that they will need to create their chair.  We have learnt how to make a tube and then how to join a tube to a flat piece of card by cutting the end into tabs and gluing them down.  Some of us struggled to have enough patience to wait while holding the two parts together!  In the end, everyone managed to learn this skill.  We are looking forward to making a chair for Baby Bear in the next few weeks.
