Year Two - Investigating plants and vehicles

This week in Year 2 we have been very busy with our learning and have had lots of fun along the way!

In English, we have been writing letters to Mr Hathaway inspired by the story The Day the Crayons Quit. We imagined that different classroom objects had something important to say! The children wrote from the point of view of items like pencils, glue sticks and rubbers, explaining how they feel and what the children could do to look after them better. We loved sharing our letters and thinking about how small changes can make a big difference in our classroom.

In Design and Technology, we have begun exploring wheels and axles. The children investigated how they work and why they are so important for moving objects. We then used this knowledge to design our own moving vehicles, carefully thinking about what they will look like and how they will move. We are very excited to start making our vehicles next week!

In Science, we have been learning all about seeds, bulbs and tubers. The children really enjoyed cutting them up and looking inside to find the different parts. We compared how each one stores food and talked about how this helps a new plant to grow. It was fascinating to see how different they are, even though they all do the same job.

Year 6 have been enjoying getting out in the sunshine this week to do some exploring of reasoning questions in a fun, active and engaging way.

Year 5- Poetry Performance

This week, the children were lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit the Pavilion, where they took part in a truly memorable experience. They were absolutely brilliant throughout the visit and performed The Highwayman confidently as a team. The children used clear, loud voices, worked extremely well together, and supported one another throughout the performance.

In addition to performing, the children also had the opportunity to become part of the audience, showing excellent behaviour, respect, and enthusiasm as they watched others perform.

We are exceptionally proud of the children, as they represented Radipole wonderfully both on and off the stage. It was a joy to see their confidence, teamwork, and commitment shine through. Well done to all of Year 5!

Year 3 - river explorers!

Year 3 had a lovely trip to Sutton Poyntz to visit the River Jordan and the Wessex Water station, as part of our geography work on rivers and the water cycle.

We enjoyed wading in the river with nets to catch creatures, which told us that the water was lovely and clean. We measured the flow speed, did some sketching and surveys, and learnt more about where our water comes from and the water cycle.

Thank you to Wessex Water for a super day, and well done to the children for joining in so well.

Year 4 - Let me persuade you!

Year 4 have been brilliant speakers and explorers this week!

In English this week, the children wrote and performed their own persuasive speeches to their class, developing not only their writing skills but their oracy skills too. Some of the subjects that they wrote about included:

Should be paid for getting good results? What is the best pet to have? Should all children learn a foreign language? Is it better to be smart or athletic? Their performance were brilliant!

In geography, as part of our coastlines topic, the children found themselves exploring the gigantic OS maps, locating many known coastline locations and even finding Leeson House - which they will be visiting in June!

In DT, the children have revised how to sew a running and backstitch - ready for making their own pencil cases. We will share their finished products with you at the end of this half term.

Year One - DT moving pictures

This week, the children became investigators, exploring how pictures move in books and cards. They closely examined different mechanisms, asking thoughtful questions along the way. Did the pictures slide, or were they moving using a lever?

We had a go at making a sliding picture and a lever mechanism.

It was great fun!

Year Two - planes and helicopters

We have had a very exciting week in Year 2!

In history, we started our new topic all about the history of flight. We made and explored different paper planes and tested how far they could fly. We had fun trying out different designs and seeing which ones worked best.

In design and technology, we looked at lots of different kinds of vehicles. We talked about how they move and what makes them work. This is helping us get ready to design and make our own moving vehicles later on.

In science, we learned about what plants need to grow. We set up a fair test using cress seeds. We think the seeds with water and sunlight will grow the best. We also planted our own seeds and are looking forward to watching them grow over the next few weeks.

The highlight of the week was the visit from a helicopter! We were so excited to see it land on the field. We loved going inside the helicopter and learning more about it. It was an amazing experience that we will never forget!

Year 1 - The Biscuit Theif

What a start to the term!

Mrs McCann had a big problem. Someone had eaten all the biscuits and sweets she had bought for the staff. The tin was empty, but there were plenty of wrappers and crumbs left behind.

She asked Year 1 to investigate. We followed the trail of crumbs and clues and visited the ICT room, the library, the scrap store and the music hut. Finally, we ended up in the office.

That’s where we found Mrs Hill, still with a mouthful of biscuits! She was feeling very sick. Mrs McCann was thrilled that we had found the culprit, and Mrs Hill promised to replace all the biscuits.

Year 4 - What a week!

It has been such a busy and happy week. The Year 4 's came back to school refreshed and raring to go. Monday started off with our new outdoor PE lesson where we are learning the skills of cricket. We got out all the PE equipment in the hall for our indoor PE lesson, for we are making the most of our time before swimming starts in May.

Thursday was a true treat as the whole school were invited to see the 'surprise' that was organised by Miss Norman for the reception children. We were even lucky enough to actually go inside the helicopter too!

School is such fun!
