  • Year 3 - Whittling, Hockey, and a Giant Peach!

    Fri 25 Oct 2024

This week, we took small groups to the nature reserve for some more whittling, while the rest of the children enjoyed building dens. In outdoor PE, we practised hockey skills and even played some friendly matches, which the children loved!

In maths, we continued with addition and subtraction, reinforcing place value to support their understanding. In English, the children worked on setting descriptions of characters from James and the Giant Peach, using creative language to bring their ideas to life. We ended the week with a special treat – watching the James and the Giant Peach movie, which they all enjoyed!

  • Year 2 - Trip To Lorton Meadows

Fri 25 Oct 2024 Mrs Mutch

What a fantastic trip to Lorton Meadows the children had this week. We were very proud of how well the children walked to the barn and how interested they were in the activities. They all listened well and carried out the activities carefully. The children really enjoyed searching and describing minibeast they found in the woods. They looked under logs and in the brushes and spotted some amazing spider webs. They all really enjoyed pond dipping and were suprised to see how many creatures were in the pond water. They found midge lavae, pond snails, water boatmen and lots more. Even though it rained a little the children all had a great time.

The children have spent the week using what they have learnt this term about about recounts, to write their own recount of our trip to Lorton Meadows. They have produced some lovely writing using time adverbs and describing what they saw with adjectives.

In Maths we have been using number bonds to help solve addition and subtraction problems. They are getting better at this and are beginning to recall number bonds to 10 more quickly but must continue to work on this.

We hope the children have a fantastic holiday.

  • Year 4 - fabulous DT torches, diary writing and times tables

    Fri 25 Oct 2024

Year 4 have been busy make some lovely DT torches, following their work on electricity and circuits. They thought carefully about the client requirements and made a torch to suit the client. Well done for your determination, this was tricky!

We have also been writing some fantastic Anglo-Saxon diaries this week. We used super time connectives and fronted adverbials to describe our days.

In maths, we have been practising our times tables in preparation for the MTC (multiplication tables check) which children sit in the summer. We played Hit The Button on the interactive white board in teams, played U R Brainy MTC on iPads and did some fun paper games.

Well done, children, for your hard work!

  • Year 1 - Which materials are waterproof?

Thu 24 Oct 2024 Mrs Ireland

Teddy had a big problem and needed a waterproof umbrella so he could play outside in the rain but still stay dry.  We tried to help him find a suitable material for his umbrella.  We tested materials and fabrics to see which ones were waterproof.  We used pipettes to drop the same amount of water onto the materials.

We discussed what we found out and watched the droplets carefully to see if they would soak in.

Eventually, we suggested three materials that Teddy could choose from that were waterproof.

  • Reception - SCARF Life Education Tent

    Wed 23 Oct 2024

Reception had a wonderful time visiting Harold the Giraffe in the Life Education tent. They worked with Jane from SCARF and thought about their bodies and staying happy and healthy.

All this works links really well to their PSHE work they have been doing in class.

  • Year 3 - Description Writing, Booklets, and Gymnastics

    Fri 18 Oct 2024

This week in English, we focused on descriptive writing, bringing to life the characters and settings from James and the Giant Peach. The children used vivid language and creative ideas to describe what they imagined, showing great enthusiasm.

In maths, we continued our work on addition and subtraction, focusing on the column method. The children were very hands-on, using practical resources to help them understand and apply this method confidently.

In geography, the children enjoyed making Iron Age fact file booklets. They researched key facts and presented their information in an engaging and creative way.

For PE, we built on our gymnastics skills, with the children practising different travelling movements. They are making excellent progress in their coordination and control.

  • Year 2 - Number Bonds and Spelling

Fri 18 Oct 2024 Mrs Mutch

This week Year Two have been using their number bonds to ten to solve addition problems. They have explored diffferent apparatus to add two one digit numbers by making ten. They then went on to add three one digit number by adding pairs that make ten first. This was really tricky and we will come back to explore this later in the year.

On Friday the children had fun searching for words with more than one syllable hidden in the classroom. They then clapped the syllables to help with their spelling and wrote the words down.

In science, the children have been exploring food chains and were able to talk about which creatures ate who and what would happen if one part of the food chain was not available. We are all looking forward to our trip to Lorton Meadows next week to learn more about this.

  • Year 1 - Our Exhibition of 'Things from the Past'

Fri 18 Oct 2024 Mrs Ireland

It was lovely to see so many people at our exhibition of 'Things from the past'. The children have really enjoyed looking at the items and talking about how they have changed.

A big thank you also to Mr Kemp who brought in an old projector and showed us a very old Disney film.

  • Year 4 - exciting experiences

    Thu 17 Oct 2024

Year 4 have had a few exciting experiences this week!

On Tuesday, we joined an online session with a real author, Ruth Quayle. She explained how she became a writer, how her imagination at school led her to write stories at a a young age, and how she simply loves writing today. She read an extract from one of her books, Marvellous Mabel. The children were fascinated with her presentation.

The children also experienced a visit to what was once known as the Life Education Van. This time however, it was more of a Life Education tent! The children loved going inside the special tent in our music hut, seeing Harold the giraffe, finding out about the different systems within their body and how to stay healthy, and about how to compromise with friends to get win-win outcomes.

This week in the nature reserve was all about the creatures! Not real ones though - we used natural materials to make our own creative creatures. Check out their clever art work in the photos.

  • Reception - Sorting Sorting and More Sorting

    Mon 14 Oct 2024

This week in our Maths sessions in Recpetion we have been busy sorting! We have sorted by shape, by colour, by size, by type...we even sorted Mrs Mullins' socks out!!! Stinky!!

We chatted a lot about when something is the same and when it is different. We then had to design a matching pair of socks.

It is safe to say, we are so good at sorting, we are good enough to sort the socks out at home now.
