Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Year 3 have had a fun week - in English we have been writing persuasive adverts, in maths we have been learning and applying the 4 times table, and in DT we have been practising making 3D shapes from nets for our unit on Packaging.
A group of fabulous students walked to Redlands to take part in a Racket Sports Festival with other Year 3 children from around Weymouth. They did brilliantly in lots of skill games to do with tennis, badminton and pickleball.
Well done to the children for all their hard work :-)
A new chair for Baby Bear
Baby Bear has been searching for the perfect chair and Year one is stepping up to the job. They’ve made a great start with learning and practising how to fix a paper tube to a flat surface and creating a frame that will improve the sturdiness of the chair.
Next week, they will be using all they’ve learnt to plan their final design.
This week, we had an lovely visitor from the Mental Health in Schools Team come and talk to us about worry. We learned about the feeling of worry and the different strategies we can use to help us when we feel like this. Furthermore, we choreographed our own battle scenes in groups for our Secret Agent dances and continued with our football skills, even though we had to do it on the playground because the field was so muddy! We also went to the nature reserve and explored the gradient of the landscape using clinometers.
This week in Year Two we have continued to rehearse our Christmas play, and everyone is working hard to remember their lines and sing with confidence. It’s really starting to come together, and we can’t wait to share it with you soon!
In Design and Technology, we designed and created our very own puppets. It was amazing to see all the different ideas and we can't wait to make them next week. If anyone would like to help us do contact the office.
In History, we travelled back in time to learn about Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance expedition to Antarctica. We didn’t just read about it—we acted out the dramatic events! It helped us understand how brave and determined the explorers were.
In PSHE, we focused on kindness and inclusion. We worked together to think about ways we can help others who might feel left out, making sure everyone feels part of our class community.
In Maths, we explored shapes in lots of fun ways. We used different equipment to make shapes and discovered that the corners of shapes are called vertices.
It’s been a fantastic week of learning and creativity. We’re looking forward to more adventures next week!
Year 5 enjoyed an informative visit from a representative of the local fire station, who shared essential tips for staying safe. The children discovered why hoax calls put lives at risk, how faulty electronics can lead to fires, and why it’s crucial to alert firefighters about pets during an emergency.
They also discussed how families are encouraged to check smoke alarms on every level of the home, plan clear escape routes, and agree on a safe meeting point outside. Having an alternative exit could make all the difference if the main route is blocked.
Year 5 were inquisitive, attentive, and represented the school superbly throughout the session. Well done, Year 5!
Sewing Skills
We have continued to practice our sewing skills and are now using both running stitch and overstitch. Everyone has worked so carefully!
Christmas Play Preparations
We are also continuing to learn our lines and the words to the songs for our Christmas play. It’s lovely to hear all the singing – we can’t wait to share it with you soon!
History Adventures
In history, we’ve had a fantastic time working as if we were part of a museum team. Our job is to create a display all about the famous explorer Ernest Shackleton. We looked at old photographs of Antarctica and made freeze frames of the scenes to figure out what was happening. Using clues from the pictures, we discovered fascinating details about Shackleton’s life and his incredible expeditions.
Geography Adventures
In geography, we have been on virtual fieldwork to Antarctica. We watched films about visiting Union Glacier. We discovered what it is like to stay there.
It’s been a week full of teamwork, creativity, and discovery. Well done, Year 2!
This week in science, we explored objects made from different materials. The children discovered that many items are made of plastic, some are made of metal, and others use a mix of materials. They really enjoyed discussing everyday objects and labeling the materials they are made from.
This week, year 3 did a science experiment to see which surfaces created the most friction. We rolled a marble down a ramp and measured how far it travelled on carpet, concrete, grass and paper, recording our results in a table. In our English sessions, we also planned and wrote our own story based on the picture book ‘Animal Magic’. We tried to include expanded noun phrases, coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions and direct speech.
This week, we have been looking at Mountains in our Geography lessons. We had a go at drawing a mountain and they all looked different! This showed us how, although they're all mountains, they can vary a lot. We looked at the different features of a mountain range too. In PE this week, we practised our marking in football. We played different games and did different drills to improve our marking skills for defense. Furthermore, we went to the nature reserve and identified lots of different types of leaves. It was freezing!
Yesterday, a group of Year 5 and 6 boys took part in a football friendly against Wyke Regis. The whole team gave it their all and worked together with great team spirit. A special thank you to Bodie's dad, who stepped up as referee with very little notice.
