Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This week, year 3 continued their art topic on the Brazilian painter and printer, Beatriz Milhazes. First, we designed and made our own printing blocks using pieces of string on card to make different shapes. Next, we used the printing blocks to practise printing in a range of colours. Next week, we will be moving on to planning and producing a final piece in this style.
Over the last couple of days, we have been really focussing on understanding teen numbers. The children have learnt that numbers like 14 are made up of one ten and four ones, building a strong sense of place value.
We have enjoyed a range of hands‑on activities, played games, and had lots of fun exploring what is similar and different between the teen numbers.
Fun Activity Idea to Try at Home:
Why not have a go at a Teen Number Treasure Hunt?
Hide groups of objects around the house—such as 10 buttons and 6 lego bricks and ask your child to find them, bring them together, and build a teen number. They can then say the number using place value language, like “one ten and six ones… that makes 16!” It’s a simple, active way to reinforce their learning.
Today was an exciting day in Year Two as we celebrated Times Table Rock Stars Day! The classroom was filled with brilliant Rock Stars—leather jackets, sunglasses, colourful wigs, and plenty of sparkle. Everyone looked fantastic and we enjoyed being rock stars for the day.
We spent the morning playing games linked to our times tables, then in the afternoon we used the Times Table Rock Stars programme to help us practise and improve our 2, 5 and 10 times tables. The children loved challenging themselves.
In Art this week we explored colour mixing and experimented with making different shades of green, orange and purple. The children worked carefully to see how adding more of one colour changed the shade. These mixed colours will be used later in the term when we create our own collages.
Well done, Year Two—you rocked it! 🎸✨
Friday's are always fabulous at Radipole. We get our Reading Badges, we get extra play if we have completed our homework and sometimes, in January, we get a sunny day too! Congratulations to those children who received their reading badges today! Well done!
This Friday has been especially super because we have our TTRS day (Times Table Rock Stars)! We have dressed up as Maths Rock Stars, played some multiplication games and even sang We Will Rock You in our morning assembly.
Between the downpours, we enjoyed a selection of fun activities in the Nature Reserve using our senses. We stood quietly to listen to what we could hear, went on a treasure hunt for items that met the adjectives on our list and we took away our sight sense to see if it heightened our other senses. All the children immersed themselves in the activities and the muddy puddles.
Year 5 have been exploring geography in a hands-on way by creating their very own ‘biomes in a bag’. Using a sealable plastic bag, a layer of gravel, soil and a sprinkle of cress seeds, the children made miniature environments that recycle their own water – just like the Earth’s natural water cycle. Once sealed, the bags act as self-contained biomes, allowing moisture to evaporate, condense and fall back to the soil. The class will observe how their cress grows over the next couple of weeks, helping them understand how different biomes sustain life.
Year 6 have been busy creating beautiful collage pieces for Art this week. The children have been studying Chuck Close during this half term, and different techniques in Art. We think their collaged fruits look amazing! Well done, Year 6.
This week in Year Two has been very creative and lots of fun!
We began the week by exploring paper art. The children explored a variety of paper types, feeling the different textures and noticing how each one behaves when cut or torn. They experimented with tearing and cutting shapes—skills that will be incredibly useful when we begin our collage later this term. It was lovely to see the children so engaged, chatting excitedly about how each paper felt and what they could create with it.
In Maths, we focused on developing our understanding of multiplication and division. The children enjoyed working practically, especially when grouping different objects to match multiplication number sentences. This helped them see how multiplication is like creating equal groups.
Our Nature Time session this week was a real highlight! After all the recent rain, the children had great fun exploring the puddles—seeing how deep they were and testing what floats or sinks. They then worked together to build small boats using only natural materials such as sticks, leaves, bark and grass. We loved watching their problem‑solving skills in action as they tested, adapted, and improved their floating creations.
We also went on a material scavenger hunt, searching for natural items that were soft, hard, rough, and smooth. This activity encouraged the children to look carefully at the world around them and describe what they found using scientific vocabulary.
This week, in our English lessons, we began to prepare to write a non-chronological report on a mysterious Brazilian rainforest animal. As part of our learning journey, we worked as a group to practise making notes on capybaras, using key words, abbreviations, sub-headings and bullet points. Next week , we will use these note-taking skills to plan a report on our own imaginary jungle creatures.
This week year 5 have really enjoyed learning badminton in PE. They were fantastic collaborators, improving their precision and creating rallies with their peers.
The children have also been learning how to move confidently around the court. They were quick on their feet and worked hard to apply new skills with enthusiasm and determination.
Well done, Year 5! 👏🏸
