Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
A whole year group of Explorasaurus learners headed out to Lyme Regis as part of our History and Geography topic. In Reading Practice we have also been reading about Mary Anning, - so it was a much anticipated trip.
Both adults and children were so excited about the trip and everyone learned so many new things about fossils and Mary's life. The children had a great time listening to Chris- the fossil expert, and to Brian,- who showed the children the statue of Mary and where she was buried. In the afternoon, the children became fossil hunters - just like Mary.
A huge THANK YOU to the volunteer parents.
Many of the Year 5 pupils have recently taken part – and successfully completed – their Bikeability training, the national scheme for improving cycling proficiency.
Bikeability cycle training equips children with vital life skills. Pupils not only learn to cycle, they gain independence, social skills and a sense of wellbeing. After Bikeability, children are better at responding to risk and report increased confidence. As a result, more children cycle to school, which in turn improves mental health and wellbeing. This allows children to get more out of the classroom, improving their attention span and engagement.
Congratulations to all those in Year 5 who have completed their Bikeability training, and the best of luck to those taking part later in the term.
This week, in our English lessons, we wrote a first-person autobiographical recount of Philippe Petite (the French acrobat) walking on a wire between the Twin Towers.
This week, Year 6 were fortunate to have an external cricket coach come in for the morning. We participated in a range of warm-ups and skill development activities. Later in the week, we applied our skills in a game of Kwik Cricket.
The Year 5 pupils had a wonderful day this week, taking part in a series of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) challenges set by the RAF.
The first challenge involved designing and making a paper and card rocket to be launched using an air pressure pump. The children considered aspects of their design in order to make their rockets as streamlined as possible. The second challenge was to work in small teams to design and construct a variety of shapes and structures out of giant Meccano pieces. The final challenge was to launch the rockets and measure how far they travelled. Many of the rockets exceeded 50 metres in distance!
Thank you to the RAF for organising such a fun and stimulating day!
A couple of weeks of fun!
Disco, spelling lessons making fortune tellers, a GREEN day for Charity - Dorset Wildlife Fund as part of our Green school award and a Freeze Pop Friday to raise funds for the Year 2 trip!
This week Reception took up the STEM challenges related to the story Tiddler.
They had the challenge to make a new friend for Tiddler.
They had the challenge to design a safe hiding place for Tiddler.
They designed a map so Tiddler wouldn’t get lost.
They had to make a scene from the story that had flaps added to hide the sea creatures .... and much more!
We are Tryosaurus’ In Reception so of course everyone rose to the challenge.
As part of our geography topic on settlements and trade, Year 6 explored the fairness of trade between different countries by playing the Trading Game. Competitiveness ran high, bargaining peaked and outright robbery began!
In maths, this week we have been working on length, weighing/mass and capacity. We have focused on using different types of language to compare lengths and amounts of liquids and mass.
The children had great fun working outside and we think everyone got a bit wet but the weather has been so glorious that we soon dried off.
Year 3 enjoyed a super STEM day this week (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Having learnt about the life of Isambard Kingdom Brunel in English and History, we designed and built trains and tested them on a ramp to see which could smash through the most dried spaghetti rods.
In DT, we have been finding out about pneumatics and we created our own fun monsters with mouths that opened and closed.
The Nature Club learnt about wild flowers around the school from Dr Nige, our visiting expert! They did some lovely outdoor art paintings of the flowers to finish.
