  • Year 2 – Collaborating and Trying Hard

    Fri 13 Jan 2023 FProbert

What a wonderful week it has been in Year 2. Although the weather has been rather wet, the children managed to get outside to do some science investigations exploring all the different types of materials around the school. A great start to our new science topic. The children had to work as a team to record their observations.

Teamwork and collaborating continued into our RE lessons this week, where the children had to sequence the story of Moses and the Story of the Passover.

Music had a great beat to it as we listened to the song - We will rock you! The children appraised the song before moving onto their own rock song – I wanna play in a Band! They tried hard to collaborate playing the glockenspiels and bells to keep in time to the music.

Finally, … a huge congratulations to Lucy-Grace Pike in 2P who was able to recite the whole of The Owl and The Pussy Cat – a fabulous achievement.  Many of the children across the year group rose to the challenge of learning the first verse – well done to you too!

  • Reception - Dinosaur inspired Art

    Fri 13 Jan 2023 H Mullins

The children have loved listening to the poems and looking at the colourful images in the book , Stomp Chomp, Big Roars, Here Come the Dinosaurs! By Kaye Umansky and Nick Sharratt .

They have painted dinosaurs that could be found in this wonderful book.

  • Year 5 - Sikhism

    Thu 12 Jan 2023

As part of our R.E. topic on Sikhism, the children made plasticine bowls to represent the world. Each child then had to “fill” their bowl with a noun that would make the world a better place to live in.  Some examples of the children’s choices were ‘loyalty’, ‘selflessness’, ‘kindness’ and ‘love’.

  • Year 1 - Natural Patterns

Thu 12 Jan 2023 Mrs Ireland

We had great time practicing making patterns with natural materials in the nature reserve. It was a bit muddy, but the children found really ingenious natural things to make different patterns with.

  • Year 2 - Challenges

    Fri 06 Jan 2023 FProbert

The children have returned to school with new energy and a readiness to learn. As always, we have started many new topics this term, so remember to ask the children about what they are learning.

In Maths, we have started a new topic on Money. The children are learning how to recognise the different coins and notes, and to add up in £ and pence. This is a great time to be encouraging the children to have-a-go at spending and counting real money whenever you can.

In ICT, the children have started working on creating pictograms. They found it quite easy to record the information successfully. The next challenge will be to interpret and ask questions about their pictograms.

Challenges is a theme that is part of our PSHE this term. One aspect we discussed this week was – what is a realistic challenge or goal? Linking our PSHE to our English, we have taken on the challenge of learning the poem ‘The Owl and The Pussy-Cat’ by Edward Lear. We decided that learning the first verse was certainly a realistic challenge for all of the children and teachers. Learning all three verses was a much greater challenge, but some children think they can do it by next Tuesday? Watch this space.

  • Year 6 - Algebra

    Fri 06 Jan 2023

After a relaxing break, this term's math started with algebra. The children worked really hard at writing expressions, substituting and solving. They were amazing!

  • Reception - Skeletons

    Fri 06 Jan 2023 H Mullins

The children stated the week being a bit frightened of skeletons but now they are fascinated!

They can tell you the names of some of the bones, talk about joints and what organs are found inside our skeletons.

They can tell you how many bones a baby has, and how many Mrs Mullins has!

Stories about skeletons have been funny.
