  • Year 5 - Nature Reserve

    Thu 21 Sep 2023

Year 5 pupils had a terrific time in the nature reserve and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air and early autumn sunshine - especially after so much wind and rain recently! After another successful week of learning, the children were ready to spend some well-earned time outside, playing imaginative games, building dens and exploring the woods.

Congratulations to all the children who won the den building competition!

  • Year 5 & 6 nature club!

    Wed 20 Sep 2023

The Year 5 & 6 nature club has started, with children keen to learn facts from our resident expert Dr Nige and help with the conservation of our local area.

In the first session, we learned more about local wild flowers and enjoyed a sunny blackberry picking session with pots of fruit to take home.

In the second session, we learned more about migratory birds and helped the wild flower area at the front of the school by weeding unwanted plants to help with next year's growth.

Well done to the children for their interest and enthusiasm 🌼 🌻 🌸 🌹

  • Year 4 - Bigger, faster, brighter!

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

Bigger ... year 4 have been working with bigger numbers in Maths this week. We have started to look at identifying and representing numbers up to 10,000, and how they might look on a variety of number lines.

Bigger ... in our Reading and English lessons, we have continued with our work on Beowulf. We have met the evil Grendel who is the biggest monster, and the hero Beowulf who is the strongest. The children have written some fantastic character descriptions of this mighty hero using their expanded noun phrases.

Faster... in hockey, the children have become much more confident with holding the stick and being able to dribble the ball with greater speed and accuracy.

Brighter ... in Science the children have been making their own circuits exploring different outputs and different objects that will keep the electricity travelling around the circuit. They worked out that more batteries can make the lights brighter!

    Lots of investigative fun!

  • Year 6 World War Two

    Fri 15 Sep 2023

As part of out history topic on Weymouth's part in World War Two, we jumped at the opportunity to see a Spitfire fly past for Battle of Britain day. Actually, the Spitfire turned out to be a Hurricane. Although the Spitfire is probably the most well known, it was actually the Hurricane that took down more German planes!

  • Year One - Beebots

Fri 15 Sep 2023 Mrs Ireland

In ICT, we have been learning how to program Beebots. We made the robot travel to a partner and we learnt how it needed to do a half turn to come back to us. Some of the children had a go at programming their Beebot to move in a square. We all learnt how it was really important to clear the previous instructions.

We did really well and loved sharing our programming knowledge with our freinds.

  • Year 5 - solubility investigation

    Thu 14 Sep 2023

This week, the young scientists of Year 5 embarked on an engaging investigation to explore the solubility of various materials in water.

Armed with curiosity and beakers, they carefully measured and mixed a diverse array of substances – from sugar and salt to sand and coffee.

Observing with wide-eyed wonder, the students noted how some substances dissolved completely, forming clear solutions, while others stubbornly refused to budge in water's embrace. Through this hands-on experiment, they grasped fundamental concepts of solubility.

This engaging experiment not only fostered scientific skills but also involved the ability to work well in a team, which the children did magnificently well.

  • Year 2 Spider Web Hunt!

    Wed 13 Sep 2023 Mrs P

All year 2 children had a fun time in the nature reserve this week.  We were looking for spiders webs!  We found the micro habitat of different spiders.  Ask your children to name some for you.

  • Year 4 - a super first week!

    Fri 08 Sep 2023

Year 4 have made a fabulous start to their new year! They all looked super smart in their Radipole uniforms and PE kits and have worked very hard.

In maths, we have been using Base 10 equipment to help us understand place value to 1,000 and beyond.

In English, we have started reading the book Beowulf to link in with our history topic on Anglo-Saxons and to practise writing expanded noun phrases.

In PE we have enjoyed some hockey.

Well done to all the children for their positive attitudes and hard work, keep it up 😃 😇 😎 🌞

  • Year 6 - first week back!

    Fri 08 Sep 2023

Wow, what wonderful, kind, respectful and hard-working role models we have in Year 6. They have started their final year at Radipole in a calm and mature manner appearing to take everything in their stride. Already experiencing a local trip to St Anne's grave yard to foster curiosity and pose questions after seeing the RAF grave stones. In addition, we started our PSHE leaning this term with a team building activity: making a bridge with only newspaper and sellotape.
