Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This week, Year 4 had a lovely visitor from the SCARF charity - SCARF stands for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. SCARF supports our teaching of PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education). Children enjoyed meeting Harold, seeing inside a body using a fabulous iPad video app, talking about safe and unsafe drugs and medicines, and the importance of healthy friendships. Well done to the children for their wonderful contributions and thoughtful questions.
In computing, we typed up some of our wonderful dragon writing ready to make a display. The children showed some great computer skills using Word.
In geography, children have been using an atlas to locate mountain ranges and placing them on a map.
We made the most of a wet weather PE lesson by doing some fun dinosaur yoga in the classroom.
Monday was a 'crazy sock day' in support of our Anti-bullying week.
Well done everyone ๐
Today something very exciting happened. Jane from SCARF and Harold the Giraffe visited us to talk about healthy bodies, healthy friendships and happiness.
We talked about what healthy foods to put in our bodies, that sleep and relaxing are important too. We talked about brushing teeth, keeping clean and if we need medicine, then only grown ups touch medication.
We all had a cuddle with Harold and look forward to seeing him and Jane next year. Thank you Jane and Harold.
As part of our history topic on ‘Anglo-Saxons and Vikings’, Year 5 have written diary entries from the point of view of a Viking invader or settler.
The children described their journeys from Scandinavia to England and then outlined their experiences on these shores. Some described their experiences trading with the Anglo-Saxons, while others described battling the indigenous population and taking prisoners to use as slaves.
All the children produced excellent writing.
This week, year 3 planned their own story based on the book ‘Animal Magic’. We tried to include all the new writing skills we’ve been working on this half term, such as including expanded noun phrases and direct speech. In our science lesson we conducted an experiment with magnets to find out which materials are magnetic.
To promote Anti Bullying Week, we started on Monday by wearing odd socks. Have a look at them...
During PE this term, we are exploring shapes in gymnastics and perfecting our landing off of equipment. Have a look at some of our shapes...
It is Anti-Bullying week and today we came into school wearing odd socks to show our support. Children also did activities in the classroom, learning about bullying, what to do if you spot it or who to tell if it happens to you.
There were some fantastic examples of odd socks so well done to all who took part.
Year two had great fun making and decorating finger puppets in DT this week. The children practised cutting and securing felt in preparation for making hand puppets over the coming weeks. You have to agree, the end results look very cute!
We had a lovely afternoon in the nature reserve. We have been talking about the different seasons and how the trees change. The children looked for different shaped and coloured leaves and we hope to make these into seasonal Autumn wreaths next week.
We see hats everywhere. Hats for hot weather, hats for cold or wet weather, hats for fun and hats for sport.
Hats keep people safe such as hard hats for builders, strong hats for fire fighters and police officers.
Some hats tell us a story like pirate hats, bakers hats and witches hats.
We looked at crowns and the Royal family. What does a crown tell us?
Hats are made in different shapes, sizes and materials.
We did a ‘hat walk’ of our favourite hats and described the hat and who would wear it.
We had a lot of fun learning all about hats.
The best way to learn all about shapes is to go out and about looking for shapes in the environment.
We have been looking for circles, squares, triangles and rectangles and know how many sides and corners they have.
We are shape- tastic about shapes.
We made pictures with the shapes. We can see how they fit together and how to select the best shape for a face, a sail, a hat, body etc.
What would you make?
