  • Celebrating Diwali -Festival of lights in Reception

    Thu 09 Nov 2023 H Mullins

Last week we learned about Diwali - The Festival of Lights.

We found out about customs and traditions and made Rangoli patterns in coloured tissues. We painted patterns on bread in bright colours and made Diva lights out of clay. We talked about fireworks, special food and clothes that are worn at Diwali. We all thought it was a wonderful festival!

  • Year 4 - Times Tables Champions!

    Thu 09 Nov 2023

Year 4 are truly getting into the swing of learning their times table facts. In class, we have been focusing on our 3, 6 and 9 times tables. We have played games, completed number wheels and even started trying to speed up our recall of the multiplication facts. We even had a multiplication treasure hunt in the Nature reserve too! We loved playing the Sumdog times tables games in the computer room.

In English, we used our super imaginations to create our own dragons and wrote a non-chronological report about them, including appearance, diet, habitat and other amazing facts.

PE has been a highlight this week too. In Real Gym, we were looking at being Collabadons, for we worked in pairs trying to create a range of balances. In Lacrosse,  the children continued to use their skills to run with the lacrosse net without dropping their ball and to throw the ball to a partner.

French Friday saw us using our number, colour and clothing vocabulary. When Mrs Smith called out an item in French, we used the cards to show the answer.

  • Ready to read in Reception!

    Tue 07 Nov 2023 H Mullins

After weeks of learning lots of single sounds and digraphs (2 letters, 1 sound), and then blending them together to make words.....we are ready to read in Reception.

We are also reading from ‘picture books’ as discussing books, stories, pictures, characters, making predictions and using expression when we read is also important on our reading journey.

We are lucky to have help from other adults in the school who love joining us 3 times a week. The children are keen to read 5 times at home to get their extra play and win ‘Wormy’ the reading worm 🐛

  • Year 4 - Rockstars Battle, watercolours and lacrosse!

    Fri 03 Nov 2023

Year 4 have had a busy but enjoyable week back after half term!

The hotly anticipated Times Tables Rockstars Battle came to a head on Friday, with 4B just beating 4P, it was very close! The top scorer had over 15,000 points which was fantastic. Well done to all the children who joined in - fluency in times tables will make such a difference to the children in years to come for their enjoyment and success in maths.

In art, we started a unit on water colour painting. We enjoyed using different techniques to paint backgrounds, and when they were dry we added fine detail on top. Well done to the children for their focus and patience.

In PE, we had a sports coach to introduce us to the wonderful sport of lacrosse, a fast and fun team game.

In French, we have been using je voudrais to ask for things, and practising the names for clothes and colours.

    Well done everyone :-)

  • Year one - exhibition of ‘Things from the Past’

Thu 02 Nov 2023 Mrs Ireland

Year One put on a wonderful exhibition of things that were used in the past. All the parents and grandparents were very generous and lent us so many exhibits for our Museum. The children wrote labels and did drawings of the items. We had so many visitors and everyone seemed really interested about learning how and why the things were used in the past.

It was lovely to hear so many positive comments.

    Thank you.
