This week, 9 boys from Years 5 and 6 represented the school in a friendly match against St George's. The match was a close game throughout and ended with 5-5. Well done everyone who took part - you should feel very proud with yourselves including Mr Taylor, who was the referee.
On Tuesday, some children from Year 5 and 6 ventured off to Atlantic Academy Portland to take part in a Basketball Festival lead by students from the school. The children worked on skills, rules and technique to eventually lead up to a tournament in February. We had a great afternoon and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
Last week in DT, Year 2 made finger puppets to practise using templates and cutting material in preparation for making hand puppets later on this term. The children could then choose to design and decorate their puppets however they wished. Over the coming weeks, the children will be practising their sewing skills so that they can sew their final designs for a more robust finish.
We have been experimenting with some fantastic mathematical language in Reception the last few weeks. The children have been learning to use the words more than, fewer than and less than. They have been great at this, and this week experimented with drawing, writing and showing 1 less and 1 more.
We also introduced the words 'equal to', and played a game where they had to make towers with a partner and say if their tower had more, less or equal blocks to their partners.
Well done Reception - you are showing some marvellous maths skills!
This week was Anti-Bullying Week, and we kicked things off with "Odd Socks Day" on Tuesday. Throughout the week, we explored ways to stop bullying and created colourful posters to help promote kindness and inclusion.
In PE, we continued with rugby, focusing on throwing skills. In Maths, we wrapped up our Addition and Subtraction unit, practising everything we've learned.
In English, we began using speech to create some interesting and engaging writing, bringing characters and stories to life!
On Friday, we celebrated Children in Need with a fun Pudsey Bear Day! The children wore yellow or spots, enjoyed the Gladiators livestream, and had a great time practising glockenspiels in music. We ended the day with a dance-off during our PE Dance lesson – a fantastic way to finish the week!
Most Mondays, Year 6 visit the Nature Reserve to explore our wonderful site here! We're so grateful for the space we have and the lovely memories we've made here.

This week we have bean learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali and bonfire night. We headed into the nature reserve and worked as a team and made small bonfires (which we did not light). We watched a small fire being lit and spoke about fire safety. We then lit a Diwali lamp. We spoke about candles and fire being an important symbol in lots of celebrations.
This week, we started our D.T lessons on designing packaging for a product. First we examined a range of different products and discussed the materials and shapes that were used for their packaging. We also examined how the packaging of a product can be designed to appeal to different groups of people. Finally, we attempted to construct 3D packaging from 2D nets to understand how the process works. Over the next few weeks, we will design and make our own packaging for an imaginary product.
Year 4 have had another busy week! In outdoor PE we have started our new unit on football, and for indoor PE we are creating a fun James Bond dance!
In the nature reserve, children started to use saws to cut off wooden discs which will make into decorations.
In maths we have been exploring area using post-it notes, shapes and by using our times tables. Children have learnt the stem sentence, "Area is the space taken up by a 2D shape."
