Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Year 5 children have had a super week! They visited Shire Hall in Dorchester and found out about a Victorian boy, Elijah Upjohn, who was first imprisoned and punished at the age of 11 for stealing a pair of trousers. Later on in his life, he was transported to Australia. The children used sources to discover more about this young man and were astonished to learn his tragic true story. The children visited the tiny, cold cells, and then they performed a play in the courtroom. Oscars for everybody!
The children had a fabulous time on World Book Day, designing and drawing time machines and writing instructions to operate them. They also started considering what life might be like for them in 50 years' time! At the end of the day, they snuggled up in their pyjamas to listen to a bedtime story. We hope they slept well that night!
Year 1 have had a fabulous week reading 'Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne. We have tasted different fruits from the story. Then we designed and made our own fruit kebabs. They were yummy!
On World Book Day we listened to Eileen Browne reading her books and joined in with some movement activities. It was fun !
We enjoyed wearing our pyjamas to school and having bedtime stories. We created amazing bookmarks to use at home.
A very busy week!
Wow, we have been spoilt this world book day! We had an amazing visit from illustrator Charles Fuge who created our very own class character. Meet Jeremy the Wolf-goat!
This Thursday was World Book Day.
Along with the rest of the school, year 4 enjoyed looking at the range of ‘book character’ plates that people had entered into our school competition.
In class, we revisited each of the books we have read (or are still reading) this year. We wrote descriptions of The Grand High Witch from Roald Dahl’s ‘The Witches’, created a drawing of a dragon’s eye from Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Beowulf’ and even staged our own photographic tributes to Brian Selznick’s ‘Hugo’.
World Book Day has really been World Book week to fit in all the amazing learning this week.
We were visited by the Author and illustrator Charles Fuge. We created a new character with him! We also had a Zoom meeting with. Eileen Browne, who wrote and illustrated Handa’s Hen and Handa’s Surprise. We have created so much beautiful art work in response to her stories. Wearing our PJ’s was so cosy and exciting. We loved looking at all the plates designed by the whole school....so many to look at! It has been a brilliant week.
Year 6 have been busy creating stormy sea collages and making cowrie shell necklaces as part of their World Book Day activities based on their current guided reading book: The Giant's Necklace. All the children look super cozy in their PJs and have enjoyed a midday 'bedtime story'.
The presentations from Wednesday night's meeting have been uploaded to the Year 6 class page, which can be found under the 'Children' section of the website. Please feel free to browse these in your own time, and do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
Year 3 have benefited from two specialist teachers this week - a hockey coach for PE, and a music teacher to lead us in our orchestra work.
We can't wait to enjoy learning from them over the half term.
