Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Year 5 have had a wonderful trip to Shire Hall this week as part of our Crime and Punishment topic in History this half term. The children had a brilliant time learning about Elijah Upjohn, the Tolpuddle Martyrs and acting out a real case in the court room! Well done, Year 5.
As part of our geography topic on migration, the children develop their atlas skills by locating countries and cities within Europe.
The start of our basketball topic saw a rather wet session, so the children developed their basketball skills with a bench ball tournament.
Years 3&4 had a lovely bedtime story evening this week, complete with hot chocolate and a biscuit and we enjoyed some tales from a visiting story teller. Keep enjoying those lovely bedtime stories in the evenings, they are such a great way to relax and unwind before going to sleep. Have a lovely half term everyone :-)
Year 6 have been really busy with their writing this term. They have produce a Greek myth based on Theseus and the Minotaur and a biography on the life of Charles Darwin. Working exceptionally hard, they have used a range of Year 6 writing features, parenthesis, colons to introduce a list, semi colons to separate two main clauses, elipses as well as making purposeful language choices. Have a look at their wonderful work...
Year 5 pupils have been getting creative in the kitchen, preparing and cooking some yummy-looking pizzas as part of this term’s DT topic.
Over the last few weeks, the children have been learning about what constitutes a healthy, balanced meal, using information from the NHS Eatwell Guide. They have learnt about the different food groups, the nutrients they provide and the proportions these groups should be eaten in.
The children designed their pizzas with all this information in mind, and they were able to bring their creations to life this week.
Thank you to all the parents and carers who sent in toppings this week – we really appreciate it.
We have really enjoyed having Carly, a dance teacher in for the last 3 weeks. The dance lessons have been linked to our History topic on Florence Nightingale. The children have been rowing boats through stormy seas, putting bandages on each other as well as scrubbing the hospital floors and windows all through the medium of dance!!!
The children have worked independently as well as with a partner using their imaginations. These sessions have been so much fun, thank you Carly!
This week the children have started to plan and write their own newspaper reports about an unexpected invasion of…frogs!
The children have already looked at all the evidence, and now are able to report their findings. Look out for their final pieces next week.
In indoor PE, the children worked superbly using all of the gym equipment. Some children also took the opportunity to demonstrate their unique talents.
The children have also finished their maths topic on length and perimeter this week. Why don’t you ask the children about perimeters, polygons and rectilinear shapes? They will certainly impress you with their mathematical knowledge.
We ended the week on a high, with our final tag rugby session. What fabulously determined, competitive and caring sportspeople we have!
In art this term, Year 6 have been exploring the work of Chuck Close and experimenting with collage techniques. To end the unit of learning, everyone created their own collaged face. Take a look at their wonderful creations...
Parents and children were invited in to explore our maths methods during an information evening recently.
They found out about the manipulatives (equipment) and written methods we use from Reception to Year 6 in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and journaling.
Well done to all the adults and children who joined in the games, activities and examples so enthusiastically - we hope it was useful to find out more about how we teach maths so parents are better able to support children at home.
Friday's are always 'Fabulous!' in year 4, for we have our outdoor PE sessions and French with Mrs Smith. We have been learning the names of our family members, for example, my mother is ma mère!
We have also been rather 'Marvellous' during our Mindfulness lessons. On Wednesday, the MHST (Mental Health Schools Team) came to visit. This week, we talked about what makes a friendship work and concocted a Friendship Soup!
We shall certainly try to follow their advice:
'The only way to have a friend is to be a friend.'
'Treat others the way you want them to treat you.'
Funnily enough, those two adjectives - marvellous and fabulous have the same ending as our spelling rule this week! We have been looking at adding the -ous suffix to our root words.
What a joyous week!
