  This week, a team of Year 5 and 6 boys and girls played a home match against Atlantic Academy. They all played with great sportsmanship and battled until the end. A well deserved 6-1 victory. 

  

• Year One - Following Instructions

  Yummy, delicious, tasty, the best, scrumptious were all words the children used when we decorated and tasted our biscuits on Monday. They followed instructions and read what they needed to do. 

  We have read and written instructions of our own.

  

• Year 1 - World Book Week

  What a busy day we had on Monday!!! We were all dressed up and ready to talk about our book characters.

  We sang the 'World Book Day' song from George Ezra and shared a book with some older children. We had a online book talk from the author Catherine Barr and learnt about some of books she had written.

   

  We have created paper plates about book characters or books. All the adults were amazed at how good they were!

  We have had a book filled week!

  

• Year 6 - Crumble Tasting

  This week, Year 6 tasted three different varieties of crumble as part of their DT food project. Rhubarb, apple and plum had mixed reviews, but every child tried each flavour! Well done Year 6.

  

• Year 2 - For the love of books!

  For the love of books…

  What a wonderful start to the week for Year 2. On Monday, the children made such a sensational effort to dress up as some amazing book characters. We must pass on a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who made this such a memorable experience for all of the children. The range of characters were simply astounding.

  The day was further hi-lighted with a zoom visit from Catherine Barr, a children’s non-fiction writer. She shared some of her fascinating books that contained some important facts and messages about our planet and the animals that live on it. Back in class, we studied one of Catherine Barrs book called ‘What jobs could you do?’ By answering some of the questions form the book, the children were able to decide on a job that would suit them when they are older. We discovered that we have a range of zookeepers, gamers, fashion designer, teachers and professional athletes.

  The children went on to create their own character plates using some of the designs that had they planned at home.

  The children from both classes also really enjoyed the shared reading sessions that they had with the older children.

  The week ended on a high with ‘Loo-uvre’ gallery of toilet roll characters. What a fabulous exhibition of creative characters!

  It is a true, Year 2 children love books!

  

• Year 5 - World Book Day

  Year 5 celebrated World Book Day this week with wonderful costumes, brilliant book reviews/discussions and a great Teams call with author, Colin Stuart, an award winning child's author who writes books on space and astronomy. We loved hearing about the children's favourite books and seeing them read with Year 1 children! Well done, Year 5. Keep reading and enjoying the wonders of books! 

  

• Year Five - Shire Hall

  This week, Year 5 visited Shire Hall as part of our History topic on Crime and Punishment. The children had a wonderful time learning about the old courthouse that held and tried Elijah Upjohn and the Tolpuddle Martyrs. Thank you Shire Hall for giving us the opportunity to explore the court, cells, museum and directing role-play to explore our thoughts on Crime and Punishment in history.

  

• Year One - Computing

  We have been working on Purple Mash and learning how to simply program a character or animal to walk around the screen. We have used directional arrows and learnt how to check our programs by

  de-bugging the program.

  

• Year 3 & 4 bedtime story evening!

  Year 3 & 4 came back to school one evening this week in a wonderful array of colourful pyjamas, onesies and dressing gowns for a super bedtime story evening! We enjoyed some classic Greek legends from Chris Connaughton the story teller, with hot chocolate and a biscuit as well.

   

  The children thoroughly enjoyed the excitement and the stories 🤩 

  

• Year 6- Safer Schools Community Team Visit

  This week, Year 6 have been joined by Stuart from The Safer Schools Community Team. Our discussion centred around on-line safety. Here is a summary of what we discussed: 

  1. On-line chats should be positive.
  2. Think before sending a message.
  3. Everyone in Year 6 is above the age of criminal responsibility.
  4. Digital footprint are left by everything we do on-line.
  5. On-line bullying involves a range of behaviours: leaving someone out; being unkind; threatening; deliberately embarrassing someone; and using inappropriate language. 
  6. Age limits are established by the creators of content. 
  7. If it doesn't feel right, it isn't. 
  8. The Nan Test: if you wouldn't share it with your nan, it isn't suitable. 

  Did you know 35% of the children said they wouldn't show their parents everything on their phones!
