  • Year 5 - Diary Entries Based on 'The Highwayman'

    Thu 07 Apr 2022

Over this half term, Year 5 children have been reading the romantic ballad 'The Highwayman', written by Alfred Noyes and first published in 1906. After studying the poem over several weeks, the children now have an excellent insight into the characters. This week, they all worked brilliantly to write a diary entry, written from the perspective of Bess, the landlord's daughter, who is in love with the highwayman. They used evidence from the text and empathised with Bess to produce some wonderful writing. See what you think from our small selection pictured here.

  • Year 5 - Finding Out About Levers, Gears and Pulleys

    Thu 31 Mar 2022

The children in Year 5 learnt all about levers, gears and pulleys in their science lesson this week. They found out how these mechanisms make heavy jobs easier for us to do, as we can apply a smaller force to achieve a greater effect. We looked at different everyday objects, which the children sorted into groups, depending on whether their mechanisms were levers, gears or pulleys. They then worked together, following instructions to make their own simple pulleys.

  • Year One - Our walk around the Radipole area

Thu 31 Mar 2022 Mrs Ireland

On Wednesday, we went on a walk around the Radipole area as part of our geography work. We followed the map and looked at the view. We passed Radipole Manor, St Anne's church and the Scout Hut.

Our last stop was the play park. We had great fun on the circular swing and going down the slide.

The weather was lovely and some of us even had time to pick a few daisies.

Back in the classroom, we talked about the what we had done and where we had been. Then we used time connectives ( First, next, after that, finally etc) to write a recount of our journey.

    Thu 31 Mar 2022

This week has been all about the 3D shapes.

We have sorted household objects into groups and made pictures and models with them. We printed patterns using the faces of the shapes and much, much more!
