Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
The children in Year 5 had a fabulous time making pizzas this week.
For this half-term's DT topic, we have been researching what constitutes a healthy, balanced meal. Using the NHS EatWell Guide, children designed their pizzas to ensure that all the main food groups were included.
The children had a wonderful time practising their weighing and chopping skills, and they all created amazing, professional-looking pizzas. The aroma coming from the kitchen this week has been the talk of the school!
Thank you very much for your support with this project.
This week we have been discussing what makes a good friend during our Discovery RE sessions. The children had fun creating a ‘friendship web’ passing a ball of wool around the circle, and exchanging compliments to each other. We then all made friendship bracelets for one another which was great fun!
Year 3 have been enjoying a fun gymnastics unit on Flight and Balance. Today we practised our balances on low equipment. Well done to the children for their hard work and safe use of the apparatus.
This week in science, the children have been learning all about the senses and working practically to explore different tastes and textures. There were some interesting faces as they tried the grapefruit!
Year 4 – 28th January
Scrummy, Yummy! -The results are in!
Last week, we started our Science investigation where we used eggs to represent our teeth. We asked the question: How does changing the liquid alter the shell of the egg? Our photo tell it all! As scientists, we had to record our results and make a hypothesis. A hypothesis is just a technical word for what we discovered. We were all surprised to see the outcomes. Why not ask the year 4 scientists what they discovered?
In PE, we have been working on our physical skills to better our reactions. We had to be very quick! Catching a ball from a particular height and from a specified distance is extremely hard work!
We have continued to develop our Beethoven work in Music. We have also listened to, and played some jazz music. Again, watch this space…
Unsurprisingly, the highlight for all of the Year 4 children this week has been our DT, where the children put on their aprons, and became master chefs – creating their own pasta sauces by adding a variety of extra ingredients.
Their recipes and reactions were positively amazing! They can now all cook a family meal for everyone to enjoy!
PLEASE BE AWARE: Your child may ask you to take them to the sculpture park on Portland, for they have been learning about the Roy Dog. Take them there, and they will entertain you with a story that may haunt you! Go and explore our local area- you'll be surprised at what you can discover!
This week we focused on the number 6.
We played a fun hiding game to learn which two numbers make 6.
We can write number sentences too.
Year 6 spent Wednesday afternoon investigating the affect that exercise has on their pulse rates. They worked in groups to plan their experiment and they then worked systematically to record their results.
This week, the Year 5 children were very excited to see their poems in print! In the autumn term, the children entered a competition to write poems all about themselves. All the children were successful, and they have now received books featuring their work.
A couple of weeks ago, in a geography lesson, the children created their own 'biomes in a bag'. The seeds germinated successfully in their own biome, with its mini water cycle.
This week we have been learning more about Rosa Parks. We had our own protest with hand made banners.
What do we want? Equality!
When do we want it? Now!
Welcome to our Blog! We are looking forward to sharing some of our learning and exciting news for each week here on the Latest News.
We have already put up a copy of the Leeson House PowerPoint Presentation that we shared with the parents on Wednesday evening. We are not quite sure who is more excited, the children or the teachers!
QUESTION: What do the following people have in common: chefs, scientists, reporters, composers and explorers?
ANSWER: You can find them all in Year 4 this week!
After looking at where different foods come from, we have begun our journey of becoming Master Chefs! On Monday, Mrs Kiy and Ms Probert demonstrated how to make a pasta sauce. What is so exciting about that? I hear you ask. Well, it means that next week, the children will be making their own pasta sauces and adapting the recipe by adding their own ingredients. We have attached the basic recipe below, for they may want to have a test run at home! As scientists, we have started our week-long Science investigation: How does changing the liquid affect the shell of an egg? This investigation is linked to our work on teeth and teeth decay. Watch this space…..
We have also been news reporters writing an article about a frog invasion. In orchestra, we have not only been learning Beethoven’s 5th Symphony but composing our own music. We have explored different of ways of multiplying numbers by using a number of different strategies!
A busy week, yet we all can’t wait for next week to begin! Will our recipes be tasty and delicious? What will happen to the eggs? Find out next week!
