Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This week Year Two have started work on recounts. The children thought about the events of their day and learnt about writing in the past tense. They have learnt the rules for adding the suffix ed to different words and written some super sentences about events in their day.
The children had an exciting day on Wednesday looking for minibeasts in different microhabitats. They looked under logs, on paths and in bushes. They found lots of woodlouse and spiders! It was very muddy too but they had lots of fun!
On Friday the children visited the library and they got the chance to bring a library book home. We hope you enjoy reading them with them!
This week, in our English sessions, we continued to work on our expanded noun phrases through planning and writing a character description of either Aunt Sponge or Aunt Spiker, from our class book ‘James and the Giant Peach’. In our Art lessons, we experimented with clay and then planned and made our own sculptures in the style of Barbara Hepworth.
We have been collecting food for our Harvest Festival collection this week. Thank you to everyone who made a donation, the table was overflowing with lots of wonderful food which was collected by Weymouth Foodbank.
5R had an absolutely amazing time on their trip to WOEC. Despite the winds and persistent rain, the children showed incredible resilience and enthusiasm. From tackling the climbing wall to crawling through tunnels and engaging in low-level bouldering at Portland Quarry, every moment was a chance to push themselves beyond their comfort zones and of course into multiple puddles!
Their laughter was a testament to their ability to turn challenges into moments of fun and discovery. Each child, whether on the climbing wall or navigating the quarry, faced their challenges head-on, demonstrating bravery, perseverance, and teamwork.
Well done 5R!
The children have been enjoying their let's explore tasks. In drawing club this week, we have been looking at 'Alien's Love Underpants' and they have enjoyed drawing their aliens. We are designing our own fun pants and writing labels for various pictures in the book. We have used other materials such as, lolly sticks, pipe-cleaners, card and wiggley eyes to make their own alien. We certainly all know how to use a sellotape dispenser now!!!
In Year 6, this half term, we have been exploring World War Two as part of our History topic. The children have had a brilliant time learning about this very important part of history.
This week Year Two have been working really hard writing their own stories based on our book Laura's Star. They have written some amazing stories and we were really proud of how hard they worked. Many of them remembered to use adjectives to describe the setting, which was great to see.
In music this week the children have been listening to Bolero and using tuned percussion instrument to play an accompaniment to their song Music is In My Soul. They all enjoyed using a variety of instuments including bells, chime bars and Wak a Tubes.
Year 4 have had a fabulous week with the usual subjects and their fortnightly visit to the nature Reserve. The highlight of the week however was the Anglo-Saxon day.
The children and staff came dressed ready to step back in time and learn even more about this era with our very own time-travelling historian.
The children learned about what life was like for the warriors and the everyday folk. They learned about crime and punishment, the games the families might have played, and they even got to make bookmarks that were written with a quill and ink, using the Anglo-Saxon alphabet!
For many the best part of the day was using the spears (swimming noodles) and shields for a full on battle of the classes! The day was a huge success and the children's understanding of the topic was greatly enhanced.
This week, in our English sessions, we focused on using powerful adjectives to write expanded noun phrases about a range of prehistoric animals. We began this by working in groups from pictures and then moved on to write more detailed individual descriptions of our own. We used our best handwriting to copy them up for a display.
In our nature reserve time, some of us used knives (whilst carefully supervised) to practise cutting and feathering sticks as preparation for firewood. The rest of us were involved in a mini beast hunt. Over the next few weeks we will all have a turn at working on our knife skills.
This week we read the book The Colour Monster. We talked about different feelings and what to do when we are feeling that way and who we can talk to.
We made some fantastic Colour Monster tissue paper pictures and also went into the nature reserve to make some happy, sad, angry and scared faces out of natural materials.
