  • Year 4=- spiderweb hunt and Harvest Festival.

    Fri 07 Oct 2022

This week, year 4 spent some time in the nature reserve hunting for different kinds of spider web. The pictures below show some of the ones we found. This Thursday, we also made our way to St Aldhelm’s church, where we took part in a harvest festival and sang some of the songs we’d been working on in our singing assemblies.

  • Year 2 - recounts

    Fri 07 Oct 2022 FProbert

What a super week we have had! On Tuesday, Years 1, 2  and 3 walked down to St Aldhelm's Church to celebrate Harvest Festival. There were songs and stories, and the children were a great credit to the school.

The trip coincided with our English work on recounts. We have had a go at writing sentences with time adverbs at the beginning. We took photos of our trip, so that we could put them in chronological order. One of new favourite words -chronological, which means in the right order.  We will continue working on recounts over the next two weeks. Luckily, we have another trip to look forward to next Wednesday - Kingston Maurward. This trip will not only will help with our English work, but also our Science work on Habitats.

Remember if you have any spare time over the weekend, maybe go and check out some local habitats near you.

  • Year 6 History

    Fri 07 Oct 2022

This week has been action packed! On Thursday, the children walked to the church to take part in a Harvest service; they really enjoyed Big Red Combine Harvester. In history, they used their chronological knowledge to create a timeline line of significant dates during WWII.

  • 5B - WOEC

    Fri 07 Oct 2022

5B had a fantastic trip to WOEC this week. We were incredibly proud of all of the class - every single pupil fully embraced each activity! Well done everyone for being fabulous Explorasaurus' with climbing and tunneling, and for being Collabdons during the paddle boarding to help other children back on once we'd jumped (or fallen!) off.

  • Year 1 - History

Thu 06 Oct 2022 Mrs Ireland

    What is this?

    How was it used?

    Who used it?

    When was it used?

These are some of the questions the children had to ask and answer about objects from the past.  The children really enjoyed guessing,  handling the old artefacts and finding out about how things have changed.

  • Reception - The Colour Monster

    Thu 06 Oct 2022

This week we have been learning all about our feelings.

The book The Colour Monster has helped us to recognise feelings such as happy, calm, angry, frightened, mixed up and loved.

We went to the Nature Reserve to make faces that show how we are feeling. It made us all green monsters...very calm.

Another great bit of advice from National Online Safety.

  • A busy week for Year 3!

    Thu 06 Oct 2022

Year 3 have had another busy week!

We enjoyed walking to St Aldhelm's church and singing our lovely harvest songs.

In English, we have been writing character descriptions using adventurous adjectives; we created Wanted posters describing the two wicked aunties from James and the Giant Peach.

In maths, we are now onto our next unit of work which is addition and subtraction. Children have been using their number bonds to 10 to create easier number sentences, for example converting 9+6 into 10+5, and changing 8+7 into 10+5.

We used cubes on tens frames to help us, then solved harder questions such as179+8 (turned into 180+7) or 566+9 (turned into 570+5).

Can your child explain to you how to simplify 9+7? 18+6? 76+8?

You can view the parent booklet for this unit (Year 3, autumn block 2) at https://whiterosemaths.com/parent-resources if you want to help children at home.
