Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This week Year Two have been working really hard writing their own stories based on our book Laura's Star. They have written some amazing stories and we were really proud of how hard they worked. Many of them remembered to use adjectives to describe the setting, which was great to see.
In music this week the children have been listening to Bolero and using tuned percussion instrument to play an accompaniment to their song Music is In My Soul. They all enjoyed using a variety of instuments including bells, chime bars and Wak a Tubes.
Year 4 have had a fabulous week with the usual subjects and their fortnightly visit to the nature Reserve. The highlight of the week however was the Anglo-Saxon day.
The children and staff came dressed ready to step back in time and learn even more about this era with our very own time-travelling historian.
The children learned about what life was like for the warriors and the everyday folk. They learned about crime and punishment, the games the families might have played, and they even got to make bookmarks that were written with a quill and ink, using the Anglo-Saxon alphabet!
For many the best part of the day was using the spears (swimming noodles) and shields for a full on battle of the classes! The day was a huge success and the children's understanding of the topic was greatly enhanced.
This week, in our English sessions, we focused on using powerful adjectives to write expanded noun phrases about a range of prehistoric animals. We began this by working in groups from pictures and then moved on to write more detailed individual descriptions of our own. We used our best handwriting to copy them up for a display.
In our nature reserve time, some of us used knives (whilst carefully supervised) to practise cutting and feathering sticks as preparation for firewood. The rest of us were involved in a mini beast hunt. Over the next few weeks we will all have a turn at working on our knife skills.
This week we read the book The Colour Monster. We talked about different feelings and what to do when we are feeling that way and who we can talk to.
We made some fantastic Colour Monster tissue paper pictures and also went into the nature reserve to make some happy, sad, angry and scared faces out of natural materials.
We ventured down into the Nature Reserve on a a hunt for leaves! And we found LOADS! We found big ones, small ones, spiky ones, long ones, short ones, wet ones, broken ones....the list is endless!
Lots of children were great at counting some of the leaves they found.
Well done Reception, you were super on your leaf hunt! Next week we are going to use some of the leaves in our classroom work.
On Friday afternoon, we went to the nature reserve. We tried hard to make capital letters with natural objects. We used leaves, sticks and stones to create them. The curvy letters were challenging!!
Which letters can you spot in the photos?
The children have all settled well into the new year and are enjoying working collaboratively with their new classes.
In English, they have been busy reading stories set in a home. They have read the Tiger Who Came to Tea, Gorilla and Laura's Star. They have been using adjective to write descriptive sentences. Next week they will have a go at writing their own story.
The children have all enjoyed exploring habitats down in the nature reserve. This week they went looking for different types of spider webs. Thank you for providing them with the wellies so we can still go exploring when it is wet.
In art we have been looking at Henri Rousseau and using watercolours to match colours in his artwork.
This week in English, we kicked off our instruction writing with a fun and imaginative task – washing our woolly mammoth! The children loved thinking through each step of the process, and it sparked some fantastic discussions.
In maths, we moved on to a new unit on addition and subtraction. The children especially enjoyed playing "I am thinking of a number," a game that got them thinking carefully about how they would word their questions using the facts they have learned about numbers!
Our science lesson focused on the process of soil separation. The children investigated how soils are made from a mix of stones, sand, clay and organic matter. They were hands-on with different soil samples and made some interesting discoveries!
In PE, we continued developing our gymnastics skills, focusing this week on jumps and movement. The children have been showing great progress and enthusiasm as they build their confidence and coordination.
Year 4 have had a creative week! In music we enjoyed singing the fabulous Abba songs Mama Mia and Dancing Queen, and then played along using our glockenspiels.
In science and DT, we explored electric circuits using batteries, bulbs, lights and buzzers. We explored the effect of extra batteries or outputs, and insulators and conductors. We will use our skills shortly to create our own torches to take home.
Well done to all the children for their super exploring!
This week, 5T visited Weymouth Outdoor Education Centre (WOEC) for a fun-filled day of kayaking, climbing and tunnelling. The intrepid adventurers sported super smiles all day, and they all worked together sensibly and collaboratively.
The children impressed everyone with their positive attitude and sense of adventure; they were a credit to themselves and the school.
Radipole is very proud of them.
