Year 6 History
Fri 07 Oct 2022This week has been action packed! On Thursday, the children walked to the church to take part in a Harvest service; they really enjoyed Big Red Combine Harvester. In history, they used their chronological knowledge to create a timeline line of significant dates during WWII.

5B - WOEC
Fri 07 Oct 20225B had a fantastic trip to WOEC this week. We were incredibly proud of all of the class - every single pupil fully embraced each activity! Well done everyone for being fabulous Explorasaurus' with climbing and tunneling, and for being Collabdons during the paddle boarding to help other children back on once we'd jumped (or fallen!) off.

Reception - The Colour Monster
Thu 06 Oct 2022This week we have been learning all about our feelings.
The book The Colour Monster has helped us to recognise feelings such as happy, calm, angry, frightened, mixed up and loved.
We went to the Nature Reserve to make faces that show how we are feeling. It made us all green monsters...very calm.

A busy week for Year 3!
Thu 06 Oct 2022Year 3 have had another busy week!
We enjoyed walking to St Aldhelm's church and singing our lovely harvest songs.
In English, we have been writing character descriptions using adventurous adjectives; we created Wanted posters describing the two wicked aunties from James and the Giant Peach.
In maths, we are now onto our next unit of work which is addition and subtraction. Children have been using their number bonds to 10 to create easier number sentences, for example converting 9+6 into 10+5, and changing 8+7 into 10+5.
We used cubes on tens frames to help us, then solved harder questions such as179+8 (turned into 180+7) or 566+9 (turned into 570+5).
Can your child explain to you how to simplify 9+7? 18+6? 76+8?

Year 2 Creative kids!
Fri 30 Sep 2022What a super week we have had! The children have been so amazing writing their own stories based on the books Not Now Bernard and The Gorilla. They had to use the past tense to tell their story. Here are a few examples.
The children have also started to follow musical notation in our Music lessons, using the new boom-whackers, hand bells and hand chimes.
The creativity has also flowed into their art work. Today, the children have designed their own landscape pictures in the style of Henri Rousseau. They also learned how to colour-wash paper in preparation for their landscape paintings next week.
It looks like it maybe a wet weekend, so get out your pencils and paints and continue being creative!

Year 3 Stone Age Day
Fri 30 Sep 2022Year 3 had a super day in the nature reserve recreating life in the Stone Age! They lit fires (and toasted marshmallows), made weapons, did some weaving and some lovely nature art. We enjoyed some hot chocolate and a biscuit to end the day around the campfire. Well done to the children for getting involved so well.
In maths, we have just finished our first unit which was Place Value. There is a free parent booklet linked to this unit on the website of White Rose (the maths scheme we use) if you would like to have a look at the type of questions we did and the style and level of difficulty involved. You can print these for children to do at home if you would like to.

Reception in the Nature Reserve

Year 1 - Rhyming words
Thu 29 Sep 2022We have read lots more books by the author Julia Donaldson and the children have become familiar with many of her characters. This week, we have read 'Room on a Broom', spotted rhyming words and played a rhyming quiz.
The children have matched rhyming pictures and thought of their own rhyming words and written them down. The children had some fantastic suggestions and loved thinking of their own words that rhyme.
