• Reception - Skeletons

  The children stated the week being a bit frightened of skeletons but now they are fascinated! 

   

  They can tell you the names of some of the bones, talk about joints and what organs are found inside our skeletons.

   

  They can tell you how many bones a baby has, and how many Mrs Mullins has! 

   

  Stories about skeletons have been funny. 

  

• Year 4 - Digestive Systems and Persuasion

  Year 4 have had a great first week back. 

   

  The children have got really into their new Science topic about animals and started off the topic by learning all about the digestive system and making plasticine digestive systems.

   

  They have also just begun to look at being persuasive in their Writing lessons and are exploring the question - should children at Radipole wear school uniform?

  

• Year One - Working on 'teen' numbers

  In maths, we revised number bonds to ten and have started learning about teen numbers. We have read, tried to spell the number words and created numbers using different equipment including tens frames, base ten and used Reckenreks for the first time. 

  We have learnt that one ten and three ones makes 13 and 14 is one ten and four ones. 

  Next week we are carrying on this work.

• Year 5 - Class Book

  Happy New Year!

   

  Year 5 have had a lovely first few days back after the Christmas break.

   

  We have started a new class book: When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead. Set in New York in the 1970s and 1980s, the book is the story of 11-year-old Miranda, who starts receiving strange notes from an unknown writer. Even though we have only read a few chapters, the children are already gripped by the unfolding mystery, and they have loved coming up with theories about how all the clues fit together.

  

• Year 2 - A fabulous end to a fantastic term

  The children have been working hard right up to the very last minute. In English, they have published their letters on behalf of Greenpeace. They worked exceptionally hard to present their work using their neatest handwriting and the correct layout of a letter.

  Their Design Technology work finally came to its end with an array of some amazing glove puppets. The puppets were designed for the needs of specific clients, and the children sewed, glued and worked with great determination. The teachers and TA’s were so very proud of them all. 

  It was not all work this week. Party day on Wednesday was so sensational. There was many games, hat-making and card-making activities plus the delicious Christmas lunch! The children dressed up in their Christmassy home clothes added just the right amount of Christmas sparkle to the day.

  The Year 2 team would like to thank all the children and `parents for an amazing Autumn Term, and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  

• Year One - Christmas lunch

  We had great fun on Wednesday. We ate our Christmas meal wearing the hats we made and quite a few of us tried sprouts for the first time!! Well done those children!

  We all played games and thoroughly enjoyed pass the parcel and musical chairs.

• Cross Stitch Club

  Some children have joined Mrs Ireland on a Monday lunchtime for the Christmas Cross Stitch Club. I thought we should show you their efforts. We all really enjoyed our weekly catch-ups as well as doing a little bit of cross stitch too!

• Year 3 - computer skills!

  Year 3 have been practising their super computer skills this week.

   

  We carried out a science experiment to find the strongest type of magnet, and then used a program called 2Calculate to create a spreadsheet of our results and a colourful bar graph.

   

  We have been designing adverts and packaging in English and DT and we used a program called 2Design to decorate the packaging on a 3D net which we printed and constructed.

   

  Well done to the children for their hard work

  Over the last couple of days we have made a chair for Baby Bear. Unfortunately, Goldilocks broke his old one!

  The children have learnt so many skills and today we put these into use. They had great fun and loved testing the strength of the chair by sitting Baby Bear on the seat.
