Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This has felt like one very busy week! The children have worked brilliantly in Maths - with their new topic on Shape. In English, the children have learned about the perilous feat that Philippe Petit performed in 1974 as part of their recount writing. Mrs Smith has been tremendously impressed with the knowledge and application in French this week - they truly are amazing.
The spelling lesson took the children outside to write the new spelling words using chalk and then water and brush (they had to be quick!)
Friday is always a fabulous day for the children are outside swimming. In addition to the usual Friday, many children went off to perform new roles today as they took over teaching roles, care-taking roles, head teaching role and librarians! Wonder if any of them will take on these roles later in life?
This week the children have enjoyed watching the Geography fieldwork films from Oddizzi about the Jurassic Coast. Some of our children were involved in the filming of this during February half term. The children were all excited to see their friends being interviewed and we were very proud of how well they represented our school. The children made notes in a Geojotter when following the KS1 film and enjoyed spotting places that were familiar to them.
On Friday we enjoyed being part of Children Run The School Day. We had lots KS2 pupils who had applied to be either teachers or teaching assistants for the day. The children enjoyed taking part in the lessons taught by the pupils which included a PE lesson, a lesson making chatterboxes and a history lesson about the Kings and Queens of England. Year Two where fantastic, listening carefully and following the instructions, well done.
On Monday, Mrs McCann came into Year 1 terribly upset as someone had eaten all the biscuits she had bought for the staffroom. The tin was empty and there was nothing but crumbs left!
She asked Year 1 to help find the culprit. We worked as Collabadons and followed the trail of crumbs and clues. Eventually, we found Mrs Turnbull covered in chocolate and crouched under the desk in the school library!! She even had a bucket on her head!
The children had the task of retelling the missing biscuit drama. They produced some really super writing. Well done Year 1!
This week has seen the Year 4 doing all sorts of different activities.
In Art, the children have started their digital art projects. After looking at a modern digital art artist, Vera Molnar, the children took their own photographs to explore the different tools available on an i-pad .
In Maths, we have started our new topic on Angles and Turns revising the angle descriptions of acute, right angle (not angel) and obtuse. We even had a go at creating our own.
The spelling lesson this week has seen the children in the sunshine, attempting their new spelling words: using the prefix anti- ready to help them with their spelling homework.
Whilst PE was rained off on Thursday, we managed to get in the swimming pool and continue to develop our confidence and stroke skills.
This Friday, year 3 were visited by some sports coaches who ran a whole range of multi-skills games with us. We really enjoyed the range of tag games, relays and obstacle courses.
The children have now had a couple of sessions with Ryan our tennis coach. They have learnt how to hold a tennis racket and to throw and stop a tennis ball.
They have had great fun and we are all looking forward to our weekly sessions right up until the end of term.
Day 3 of our adventure continues! Today saw us start the day with a brisk walk to Underfall Yard after yet another fantastic fried and continental breakfast!
We then split into two groups, where half of us began some paddleboarding, while the other group took part in a workshop at Underfall Yard.
The workshop at Underfall Yard was fascinating as we learnt of the history of Bristol harbour, including the floating harbour, locks and even witnessed a hydraulic pump demonstration.
The paddleboarders then went out on the water, where everyone quickly gained confidence and started standing up almost instantly! However, plenty of children did come back onto the pontoon slightly soggy; a mixture of trying out new challenges and slightly cheeky teachers!
Year 6 finished off the day with a superb Aardman workshop. They all worked fantastically and produced some amazing Gromits! They were then judged by Mr Ford in a blind 'British Bake off style' competition! You'll see how hard the job of judging was by the fantastic pictures.
We then had a fairly chilled evening watching Wallace and Gromit and admiring the craftsmanship of the characters.
We are all looking forward to seeing family tomorrow.
What another fantastic day we have had! After a good night's sleep and a big breakfast, we started our day with some Geography field work.
Following that, we headed to the SS Great Britain where we wrote some amazing raps and had a guided tour of the boat.
After some lunch, we headed off to explore MShed. It was great and we learnt loads about Bristol.
Next (Mr Ford's favourite) ZaZa Bazaar! The children were so keen to try new foods, and we were really pleased with how well they behaved in the restaurant. Superb manners!
With some very full tummies, we then headed off to see the Millennium Square and then up to Cabot Tower. Lots of steep paths and loads of steps but some fantastic views of Bristol.
We finished the day with a play in the park followed by an impromptu bit of singing and dancing (and other talents) by the cathedral.
What a busy day it has been!
We had a great time seeing all the animals at Longleat. The giraffes were a real highlight. The boat trip was great too and some of us even got to feed the sea lions.
All settled in to our accommodation and enjoyed a guided evening walk which we did with a pirate. Arrrr!
All very tired and having a super sleep ready for another busy day tomorrow.
This week the favourite story, ‘The Snail and The Whale’ was used as our focus for the week. The children created lots of crafts relating to the story. They changed the main characters and the setting to make new stories. Reception are very imaginative.
