Year 6 - SPaG and Maths Trail
Fri 28 Feb 2025Most weeks, Year 6 venture out to practise SPaG and Maths questions on the playground. The children love doing this and getting fresh air, exercise and collaborating with their classmates while exploring a variety of questions! Today the sunshine shone for us, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Well done, Year 6. You were fab!

Year Two - Sandwiches and Smoothies
Thu 27 Feb 2025We have had an exciting start to this half term, tasting smoothies and making jam sandwiches. In English, we have been following and writing command sentences, in preparation for writing recipes. The children worked in pairs, following instructions to make a jam sandwich.
In Design and Technology, the children have been tasting smoothies. The children really enjoyed tasting the interesting flavours. The green matcha tea, kiwi and cucumber was popular. They are looking forward to making their own smoothies next week.

Year 1 Art - L.S. Lowry
Wed 12 Feb 2025This half term we have been looking at the artist L.S. Lowry. We started by looking closely at his paintings, including the way the buildings and people were drawn. The people were facing in different ways, some even facing backwards! The children had a go at drawing their own figures on a whiteboard first, and then in their sketchbooks. Some children tried to include prams and dogs within their drawings, just as Lowry did. Next, we focused on re creating the buildings. The children drew different sized buildings, with chimneys and windows.
We created a final piece of art work in the style of Lowry, first by painting the background in a blue and grey wash. Next we created our buildings on black paper, stuck them on the background and then finally added our ‘matchstick figures’ in the foreground. The children did an amazing job with their Art work. They really looked carefully and worked creatively to produce a fabulous end piece. Well done Year 1!

Year 4 - Wonderful writers
Tue 11 Feb 2025What a fabulous week it has been for writing!
The children have finished writing their own newspaper reports about the invasion of the flying frogs in Weymouth, and they have published them too! We hope you enjoy reading about them at home.
It was also Year 4's time to spend a morning with the amazing team from 'The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares'. The children spent the morning bringing their poetic skills to the fore, starting with their own poet names! They then went on to produce their own poems, in their new poetry journals. The gifted pencils certainly aided their skills!
We are looking forward to the published book later in the year.

Year 5/6 football friendly
Mon 10 Feb 2025On Monday, a Year 5/6 team played against Southill Primary School. Although it was a very close game and had our chances, we narrowly lost 2 - 1. Well played everyone.

Year 5 - Decimals
Mon 10 Feb 2025In our maths lessons this week, the children have been looking at decimals.
As well as revising decimal place value, children have been learning how to convert from a fraction to a decimal (and vice versa) and how to compare and order decimals.
The magnificent mathematicians of Year 5 have excelled in these lessons.

Reception - Doubling
Mon 10 Feb 2025We have been exploring what is means to double something this week in our maths lessons.
We had great fun using our magic doubling pot - we put things in and double the amount came out. We also explored doubling dots on dice and rolling doubles, doubling counters and doubling items from around the classroom.

Year 3 - Poems and Pantomime
Fri 07 Feb 2025This week, we had a fantastic visit from The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares for a poetry workshop. The children loved selecting their favourite parts of Weymouth and turning them into creative and imaginative poems.
With our pantomime just around the corner, we can all feel the nerves and the excitement! The children have been working hard in rehearsals, and we can’t wait to share the performance next week!

Year 4 - newspapers, frogs, mental health and division - phew!
Thu 06 Feb 2025This week the children have completed a few activities to help us understand how we can improve our mental health, and recognise how we can overcome challenges.
We have certainly had a new challenge in English this week as we have become newspaper reporters. We have had to observe, take notes and then start writing about Flying Frogs Invading Weymouth! Read all about it next week!
In maths, we have been looking at division with flexible partitioning, and perimeter of shapes with unmarked sides - well done, everyone!

Year Two - The Adventures of The Class Pet
Thu 06 Feb 2025What an exciting day we have had today! Our class pets have been busy today. When the children arrived at school, they found the class pets eating breakfast in the Year Two area. The class pets then found their way to the nature reserve, where they were toasting marshmallows around a campfire. During assembly, the class pets were a little naughty and had got the paint out. They were having a great time painting pictures. During lunch, the class pets joined the children in the hall and finished most of their sandwiches. After lunch the class pets had found their way into one of the offices and made a bit of a mess. The children have really enjoyed following the events of the class pets and are getting ready to write a diary for them next week.
During our forest time, not only did all of the children enjoy toasting a marshmallow, they also went on a scavenger hunt related to their materials work in science. The children had to find objects that were rough, smooth, yellow...This helped the children to describe the properties of materials.
