As part of our history topic on ‘Anglo-Saxons and Vikings’, Year 5 have written diary entries from the point of view of a Viking invader or settler.

The children described their journeys from Scandinavia to England and then outlined their experiences on these shores. Some described their experiences trading with the Anglo-Saxons, while others described battling the indigenous population and taking prisoners to use as slaves.

All the children produced excellent writing.

  • Hats and what they tell us. Reception investigate.

    Thu 09 Nov 2023 H Mullins

We see hats everywhere. Hats for hot weather, hats for cold or wet weather, hats for fun and hats for sport.

Hats keep people safe such as hard hats for builders, strong hats for fire fighters and police officers.

Some hats tell us a story like pirate hats, bakers hats and witches hats.

We looked at crowns and the Royal family. What does a crown tell us?

Hats are made in different shapes, sizes and materials.

We did a ‘hat walk’ of our favourite hats and described the hat and who would wear it.

We had a lot of fun learning all about hats.

  • Shaping up nicely in Reception this week!

    Thu 09 Nov 2023 H Mullins

The best way to learn all about shapes is to go out and about looking for shapes in the environment.

We have been looking for circles, squares, triangles and rectangles and know how many sides and corners they have.

We are shape- tastic about shapes.

We made pictures with the shapes. We can see how they fit together and how to select the best shape for a face, a sail, a hat, body etc.

    What would you make?
