Year 3- animal note-taking
Thu 15 Jan 2026This week, in our English lessons, we began to prepare to write a non-chronological report on a mysterious Brazilian rainforest animal. As part of our learning journey, we worked as a group to practise making notes on capybaras, using key words, abbreviations, sub-headings and bullet points. Next week , we will use these note-taking skills to plan a report on our own imaginary jungle creatures.

Year 5- Badminton
Thu 15 Jan 2026This week year 5 have really enjoyed learning badminton in PE. They were fantastic collaborators, improving their precision and creating rallies with their peers.
The children have also been learning how to move confidently around the court. They were quick on their feet and worked hard to apply new skills with enthusiasm and determination.
Well done, Year 5! 👏🏸

Year 4 Double Whammy
Wed 14 Jan 2026A doubly exciting week in Year 4!
Apart from our usual fabulous lessons this week, Year 4 also had the joy of cooking their own pasta sauce. After working hard in the 'kitchen', they were then able to enjoy a true Italian dish with their friends! We are delighted to hear reports of some super Italian cooking going on at home too! Bellissima!
Following on from writing and using imperative verbs for instructions, 'The Bank of Dreams and Nightmares' visit was, as always, a fun experience of writing creatively. In 4P, they wrote instructions of How to get the Bank Manager out of a vault! In 4C, they wrote ...... The children then wrote their own individual - How to guides. We look forward to the published versions of these.

Year 1 - Looking into the Past
Wed 14 Jan 2026This week, we began learning about two famous nurses from the past: Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. The children explored images to identify which ones were from the past and which were from the present day. They also wrote down some fantastic questions about what they’d like to find out. We hope as our learning continues we will be able to answer these questions together!
As part of our Let’s Explore activities, the children had great fun learning practical skills. They discovered how to tie a bandage and even mastered a simple knot! There were lots of giggles as some of us ended up very well bandaged!

A warm winter start!
Fri 09 Jan 2026The playground is frosted over, but there is a warm welcome back for all the Year 4 students.
Work started straight away with our new reading spine book -To Be A Cat by Matt Haig. In English, we are looking at imperative verbs in English in preparation of writing our own recipes for our DT project this half term, which is making a pasta sauce (with added ingredients!)
In Maths, we have been looking at factor pairs. Did you know that some numbers only have one pairs of factors? Do you know what numbers these are? Ask a Year 4 student.
PE has already been a hit with the outdoor PE being lacrosse, and our indoor PE being badminton. We had great fun aiming for accuracy in badminton and working as collabadons!

Year 3 - lacrosse, Beatriz Milhazes and multiplication!
Thu 08 Jan 2026A warm welcome back to all the children after the Christmas break! What a busy week we've had already.
In PE, we have started to learn the sport of lacrosse - children have been using their lacrosse sticks to pick up, throw and catch the ball before we move into some modified games.
In art, we have been looking at the work of the Brazilian printer and artist Beatriz Milhazes. We have found out about her life, discussed our reactions and opinions of her work and started to practise work in her style.
Our maths unit is on multiplication - children have been using equipment such as Base 10 and place value counters to solve problems such as 24 x 3 practically, then using a place value table and partitioning. We will shortly move onto a formal written method.
Well done to the children for a super start!

Year 2 - Materials and George and The Dragon
Thu 08 Jan 2026This week in Year Two has been busy, exciting, and full of learning!
🐉 George and the Dragon
In English, we have been reading the fantastic story George and the Dragon. We practised using adjectives and expanded noun phrases to describe the characters.
We looked closely at the brave, fearless knight and the huge, terrifying dragon with its scaly, green body and fiery breath. We even drew the dragon listening carefully to the description given to us.
Everyone worked hard to choose exciting words and build amazing expanded noun phrases and then used these in sentences.
🔍 Science: Materials Around Us
In Science, we have been learning about materials. We talked about what objects are made from and why those materials are useful. Some materials we explored were:
- wood
- plastic
- glass
- metal
- fabric
Then we went on a material hunt around the school! We became real scientists as we searched for different items and talked about the materials they were made from. We compared the materials using adjectives like hard, soft, bendy, strong, transparent, and rough.
The children have all made an excellent start to the new term and new year. Well done Year Two!

Year 6 - Bank of Dreams and Nightmares
Thu 08 Jan 2026Happy New Year! Year 6 have kicked the new year off with a visit from the Bank of Dreams and Nightmares, writing experts, to help us write our Greek Myths! They will be visiting us again over the next few weeks. The children thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful, weirdness and freedom of writing! Well done, Year 6.

Year Two - Christmas Week
Fri 19 Dec 2025What a wonderful festive week we’ve had in Year Two! The classroom has been filled with excitement as we celebrated the season with lots of Christmas activities. From making decorations to singing, the children have had a fun filled week.
One of the highlights of the week was our Christmas Party. The children enjoyed games, dancing, and their Christmas dinner — it was lovely to see so many happy faces sharing laughter and fun together.
We are also incredibly proud of the 16 children who represented our school at Queen Charlotte Nursing Home, spreading Christmas cheer through their beautiful singing. They were absolutely amazing and brought so much joy to the residents. It was a heartwarming experience that showed the kindness and talent of all our Year Two pupils. We would have loved to take them all.

Year 4 - Football and Festivities
Fri 19 Dec 2025The final week of term! We started the week with our final PE session of Football. We played a game which was super fun. On Tuesday, Rock Steady performed. Well done to all the Year 4 children who took part. Also, we walked St Aldhem's Church to sing carols and listen to stories. Thank you to all the parents that joined us. We also completed a class vs class challenge to make the longest paper chain. The classes worked very well together. 4P smashed it with the longest paper chain but it did break so we called it a draw! In addition, we have played the Pirate Game, definitely a new firm favourite. Thank you to all the parents for their support this term. Have a fabulous break and we look forward to seeing you in January.
