Happy, kind and brave.
Together we learn, together we grow, together we soar.
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
What an exciting day we have had today! Our class pets have been busy today. When the children arrived at school, they found the class pets eating breakfast in the Year Two area. The class pets then found their way to the nature reserve, where they were toasting marshmallows around a campfire. During assembly, the class pets were a little naughty and had got the paint out. They were having a great time painting pictures. During lunch, the class pets joined the children in the hall and finished most of their sandwiches. After lunch the class pets had found their way into one of the offices and made a bit of a mess. The children have really enjoyed following the events of the class pets and are getting ready to write a diary for them next week.
During our forest time, not only did all of the children enjoy toasting a marshmallow, they also went on a scavenger hunt related to their materials work in science. The children had to find objects that were rough, smooth, yellow...This helped the children to describe the properties of materials.
This half term, Year 6 has been fortunate enough to have a cricket coach teach them weekly. It has been a fabulous experience having a block of sessions with the coach, and the children have really enjoyed it too.
What a wonderful day Year 4 had on Friday!
It might have been January, but the sun shone down us all so that we could complete the local History Trail in relative warmth!
Whilst we are studying our local link to the Black Death, we were also in awe to discover how much other history Weymouth truly has.
How lucky are we to live here!
A huge thank you to all the parent helpers who made the trip possible, it is much appreciated.
This week, Year 5 had a blast designing and making their own pizzas while learning about balanced diets. They have been discussing the importance of including various food groups including carbohydrates, vegetables, and protein.
They all created delicious pizzas that were both tasty and nutritious. It was a fun way to learn about healthy eating while enjoying the cooking process. The children were fantastic Collabadons!
Well done year 5!
This week, some Year 5 and 6 children visited Atlantic Academy to take part in their Basketball Festival. The children put in a fantastic amount of effort, and definitely tried their upmost best. They had a great time enjoying a new sport with other children from other schools.
This week, we stepped into the magical world of The Wizard of Oz!
Our adventure began with Dorothy, who told us where we were. She let us borrow her shiny ruby slippers and sent us off down the Yellow Brick Road.
As we followed the path, we met the Scarecrow. He gave us a tricky riddle to solve so we could ‘get a brain’!
Next, we walked into the Tin Man’s forest. There, we had to guide a blindfolded friend along a path to ‘earn a heart’.
Finally, we reached the Lion’s den. To ‘find our courage’, we had to complete a fun obstacle course!
Over the next two weeks, in our English lessons, we will write about following the Yellow Brick Road and meeting a new character along the way. Who might we find?
This week, we have been learning about the five senses. We have been figuring out what was in the feelly bag using our sense of touch and smelled various food items. We put our sense of taste to the test by identifying whether a food was salty, sweet, bitter or sour.
We played noise bingo and drew pictures of our eyes!!
Gosh, its been a busy week!
This week, Year 2 have had some special visitors working with them to create some wonderful poetry. The children's poems were inspired by where they live and what they love about Weymouth and their home. They had a chance to write a longer poem with a repeating line, and then they created cinquain poems with very strict rules on the number of syllables in each line. The children thoroughly enjoyed the morning and their poems were extremely impressive.
We have been investigating if things are heavier or lighter in maths this week using balance scales and have even had a go at being a pair of balance scales ourselves.
We have also been exploring capacity and seeing how much of something can fit in a container. We used cubes, water, rice and blocks to see how many would fill containers.
This week, we have been busy continuing our Panto Pandemonium rehearsals, with the children showing fantastic enthusiasm and teamwork as they bring their roles to life.
In maths, we’ve been learning how to divide 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers, using different strategies to build confidence and understanding.
In English, the children have been working on writing non-chronological reports about their chosen animals. They’ve enjoyed researching interesting facts and presenting their information clearly and creatively.
